MITOCHONDRIAL DISULFIDE RELAY PROTEIN CHCHD4: KEY MOLECULE IN MITOCHONDRIAL REGULATION OF TUMORIGENESIS | UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
Mitochondria are crucial in the cellular response to the constantly evolving tumour microenvironment. Several mitochondrial protein translocases aid in the translocation of proteins into the mitochondria, including certain proteins with recognised cancer-related functions. Increased translocation of these proteins disrupts mitochondrial protein biogenesis and homeostasis, as well as modulating cell responses to stress and stimuli. Given its interactors and connection to cancer signalling pathways, as well as overexpression in various cancer settings, the function of CHCHD4 among these translocases is critical in unravelling mitochondrial sensing. CHCHD4 is an essential protein of the disulfide relay system that interacts with proteins of several cancer-critical pathways in response to various stresses such as hypoxia and oxidative stress imposed on the cell in the intermembrane space. The role of the oxidoreductase CHCHD4 in controlling the import, folding, and expression levels of proteins involved in tumour biology, which may be underlying cancerous cells' tumorigenic adaptation, will be highlighted in this study. A better understanding of CHCHD4's function will aid in identifying and targeting tumorigenesis-related pathways.
