Considering CHCKLK’s stunning debut The One which dropped nearly a year ago, I’m rather astonished that I let some of his subsequent music slip through the cracks. Until now. The new video for somber spellbinder Rising Up draws me back into into his smoky alt pop and R&B. The NY native turned SoCal resident offers up a poignant music video to go along with the aching mid-tempo ballad, a song that observes people’s readiness to die. It all seems rather morbid, but that’s exactly the sort of glum darkness that I find most appealing. Rising Up was produced by Rohme and JSoundz, and their ambient soundscape is a haunting companion to CHCKLK’s meditative cooing. Rising Up is available from iTunes.
