Early character sketches From left to right:

Name: De Mode [ デ モード ] Quirk: Envisage (Emitter) She can project her ideas for clothing schematics in 3D; the main designer of the Mode company, other than her mother. Name: Pe Mode [ ピ モード ] Quirk: None She officially doesn’t have one; her actual quirk inspires sexual arousal in other people and is a Mutant/Emitter hybrid.  Name: Che Mode [ チ モード ] Quirk: Kaleidoscope (Emitter) She can alter the color of any non-living object; she puts aesthetic final touches on anything the Mode company produces.

Name: Night Vision [Noritaka Benjiro - 法 隆 勉慈露 ] Quirk: Infrared (Emitter) He can change his eyes to detect heat signatures; specializes in search and rescue missions like Thirteen. Name: Silence Mode [ サイレンス モード ] Quirk: Haute Couture (Emitter) She can use her hands to instantly stitch materials together; uses her quirk to make costumes and support items for heroes. Name: Raiden Izanagi [ 莉殿 伊邪那岐 ] Quirk: Metal Founding (Emitter) He can manipulate metals into any shape he wants; runs a successful jewelry company named Izanagi Fine Jewelry.

Chapter 31

Che Mode was standing outside the door, looking bored. All Might could hear that Silence and his Mode were yelling inside the room but he couldn't quite make out what they were arguing about.

"Mom doesn't want you coming around, dude. Go away," the little sister informed him while looking up then she went back to browsing her phone.

Pe wasn't in danger, right? If it was a family affair, he had no right to interfere. Then he heard a loud slap, him instantly maneuvering past the short sister and forcing his unwanted entrance into the room. Toshinori knew he needed to meddle at that moment and this would be a fight he would have to win without using his fists.

Mode was holding her face and Silence had her hand up again, the first hit not being effective enough to get her point across. The man grabbed her wrist; the older woman instantly struggled.

"What are you doing? Let me go!"

"Only if you promise not to hit her again."

She tried to get her arm out of his grasp two more times then nodded in agreement, "I won't hit her again."

"Are you okay?" Yagi inspected his lover's face - it was red.

She nodded in response.

"Get away from my daughter!" Silence demanded.

All Might stood up straight but didn't face her quite yet.

"I told you to get away from her."

He had his hands in fists but then he took a breath and loosened them; as mad as he was right now, a punch would not fix this problem.

"I'm not going to let you hurt her anymore."

Toshinori turned around to face Mode's mother.

"Who do you think you are - her knight in shining armor? Don't treat me like some villain. My daughter has been wasting time with you instead of courting heroes like she is supposed to. I had to remind her where her focus should be."

"Who she wants to be with should be her choice, not yours."

"Don't give me that cliche bullshit. My daughters all have obligations to further my company using their quirks, their designs, and their pursuit for suitable DNA donors for my grandchildren. Pe hasn't been succeeding on any of these fronts. Instead she's been using her quirk to seduce clients away from my other two daughters who actually have design talent and she hasn't been going out on dates with any the heroes I thought would be a good match for her. And, now, she's stuck here in this hospital indefinitely because she's not recovering from her injuries quick enough."

"Your daughter succeeds at anything she's passionate about - why are you only concentrating on what you perceive as her failures?"

"My God, she has you wrapped so tightly around her finger! You don't really think what you feel for her is real, do you? Year after year, unworthy men have been falling in love with my daughter ever since her quirk developed and I'm the one stuck with the burden of having to make them realize how idiotic they're being. So, how much will it take to make you go away?"

"How much what?"

"Money. How much can I pay you to make you leave?"

Silence had done this before, hadn't she? She had done this over and over - sending away anyone Mode held dear. Mode was hers and hers alone...

"There isn't enough money in the world to change how I feel and I know that what I feel isn't a lie. I love and accept Mode, despite all her flaws. Why the hell don't you?"

The older woman’s face turned a shade of red - if she wasn't pissed before, she certainly was now.

"How dare you insinuate that I don't love my daughter. You'll regret disrespecting me," she left swiftly, speaking to her younger daughter immediately outside the door, "Che, help me find security!"

"Yes, Mom!"

"You need to leave - now," Toshinori looked over his shoulder after Pe spoke those words.

He shook his head, "No. I'm staying here. You don't deserve to be treated like that."

"I-I know you're angry right now but you need to think about your reputation. I don't want you getting arrested over this."

The man forced his teeth together - she was right. To stay was a risk he couldn't take - too many secrets that protected both of them could begin to unravel if he was caught here. Damn it - this isn't how this day was supposed to play out!

"Are you going to be okay?"

"Yes," she nodded quickly, kissing his wrist, "Now, please. Just go."

Yagi closed his hand lamely to feel her fingers then he ran out and away from the hospital, until he was certain he had escaped Silence's reach. He knew he couldn't go back there - there was no doubt in his mind Mama Mode would take any means necessary to keep him away. All Might coughed into his hand, thinking about what he was going to do now. There had to be a way around this. There just had to be.

Chapter 28

He moved the yellow version of today's flowers into his opposite hand, ready to knock on the door, when he paused, hearing lots of female voices from inside her room... He had a feeling he shouldn't go in there. If Mode was spending time with her family, he didn't want to interfere.

The door opened suddenly, the youngest sister glaring up at him, her attitude unaffected by her bandaged injuries, "Who is this old fart?"

"Che, mind your manners," Silence's voice rang out, "Let them into the room."

"Whatever," she stepped aside, letting Toshinori in.

"Blondie!" Mode proclaimed once she caught sight of him, "Blondie! Blondie! Blondie!"

Yep - his lover was as high as a kite.

"We were about to go get some dinner. We'll leave her in your care," De bowed then followed her little sister out.

All Might could feel Silence's disapproving stare on his back but she followed her daughters without a word to him.

He let go of the breath he didn't realize he had been holding and took a seat near her.

"Hey. Mode."

"I'm so happy you're here. I missed you so much."

The man couldn't deny she was acting really cute, "I missed you, too."

She gasped, excited, "Are those for me? I love yellow chrysanthemums!"

Yagi nodded in response, putting them next to her other ones when she yelled, "No! Let me hold them!"

He was surprised by her outburst but rolled with the punches, carefully handing the bouquet to her, she dropping them after a few seconds, her hands shaky.

"My body is being weird. I want a hug. Can you hug me?"

The man did what was requested of him, standing up and gingerly wrapping his arms around her. It felt wonderful to have her in his arms again.

Silence feel over the room until she whispered, "Thank you for saving me."

Toshinori momentarily thought back to when he initially found her hanging from the ceiling and how terrified he felt at that moment - he kissed the side of her head, a gesture more to comfort himself than her.

The other chuckled at the affection, "Stop it. You're tickling me. Oh! You should be proud of me."

"Hm?"

"I let the nurse brush my teeth today! See?"

He withdrew a bit, seeing her mouth in a large grin displaying her pearly whites.

"I am minty! Kiss me!"

"Okay but just one."

He gently smooched her lips.

"Another please."

He gave her another one.

"Another please."

He kissed her again.

"Heyyy. That was... more than one. I want to lay down now."

All Might stayed amused as he helped her recline.

She spent the rest of the visiting hours just talking at him, ranging from topics of Yumi the bunny, to her frustrations ordering certain materials for hero costumes, to trying to decide what her favorite color was, and whatever else crossed her mind, not having much of a filter. Yagi learned a lot about her that day. He would keep his confession of his love for her for another time.
