Especially in times like these... 💖💗💖💗 #Repost @danielle_tergis ・・・ Today I was lucky enough to volunteer alongside fellow Washingtonians in support of @wckitchen @chefjoseandres #ChefsforFeds. Pretty much everyone in this area knows someone who is impacted, whether they be a federal government employee, a contractor, or pretty much any business owner in this area. #EVERYONE is impacted by the shutdown, regardless of their political affiliation. I can relate to the anxiety that a situation like this & the unknown can create, so I was thrilled to put on a chefs apron and help make the sandwiches that were given out today. I’m not sure how many sandwiches were handed out while I was there but I know they were expecting to hand out 5,000. I met some really great & interesting people. Me & Brian Noyes, owner of @redtruckbakery, cut hundreds if not thousands of sandwich buns. (And had a few laughs along the way. ) Another volunteer had flown to Haiti & Puerto Rico to help WCK. I met 2 government contractors who are not sure what the future holds for them. One of them is owed $125,000 via her business. Oh and did I mention Speaker Pelosi and Senator Tim Kaine, among other Members of Congress, came by too? WCK just announced a nationwide campaign to provide hot meals to fed gov employees throughout the nation.
