“LOS TRES GRANDES”
by Enuf and friends
Quintessential Phoenix chef Silvana Salcido Esparza says her favorite ingredient is “anything Mexican.” Redefining Mexican food since 2002 she told New Times she made a promise that at 50 she’d start to speak up about things outside the kitchen, and in the wake of Arizona passing hotly-disputed anti-immigration laws Esparza decided to create a center of Mexican pride and culture around Barrio Café on 16th St. and “Calle 16 Mural Project” was born. She said she remembers going to Mexico City with her father and admiring the work the great muralists, so a couple of years later she was happy to have Francisco Garcia, aka Enuf, organize this wall, enlisting a laundry list of artists who wanted to collaborate in paying tribute to Los Tres Grandes—Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, and José Orozco—plus Frida Kahlo (unfortunately Siqueiros and Kahlo are out of frame at either end of this wall). Collaborators included Sentrock, Averian Chee, Jeff Slim, PRUF, KEISR, SINEK, Martin Moreno, Armando, DETOR, SRVNT, and Ser. V One @3nuf86 @calle16phx
