My S4 Cheleanor fic is taking forever to even have a defined shape, even though the whole story is outlined, because figuring out Chidi's inner voice is giving me a stomachache. My writing is always heavy on prose and I feel like getting inside Chidi's mind will only increase that, especially if we add constant dilemmas and anxiety to his train of thought.

And boy, is he having dilemmas in this story...

There are definitely some pretty long sentences ahead of me. And lost of questions. And I also need to start coming up with crazy Jason stories.

Oh my lord, they had sex! Tahani could see it the moment the two of them walked through the door. Eleanor had a way of telling the world she slept with someone without actually saying it. Her cheeks glowed bright, her smirk held more mischief than usual (maybe even a bit of shyness), her chest was puffed out with pride, and her feet had a confident stride. Chidi, on the other hand, was the epitome of professionality. He walked in the same way he always did, and she would never had noticed anything amiss if it weren’t for the embarrassed grin and the loving eyes he gave Eleanor when she turned back to smile at him. Tahani always prided herself on being able to tell when two people had engaged in a dalliance, but this was just ridiculous. Even Jason turned to her with a scrunched eyebrows and puckered lips at their odd behavior. If they couldn’t fool him, they weren’t fooling anyone.

Eleanor did tell her yesterday that the two of them were going to be having dinner together, but she figured it was merely friendly or philosophy based, at least that was how Eleanor implied the idea. But she guesses now how wrong she was, if Chidi’s warning look to Eleanor was any inclination. Tahani looked back at Jason and pursed her lips to keep in an unladylike snort, no matter how strong the urge was.

“Mornin’ guys,” Eleanor said to them, much more casually than natural. She flopped in the chair across from Tahani and planted her feet on the table. “Great morning, isn’t it?” Eleanor punctuated that by serenely closing her eyes and releasing a blissful sigh. Tahani and Jason didn’t dare to say anything while Chidi hung his jacket on the back of his chair.

“Good morning everyone, hope you guys had a nice breakfast,” Chidi added, sneaking a wink at Eleanor. Oh my god, she’s blushing. Tahani didn’t doubt the kind of breakfast they had.

“Oh, I had quite the filling breakfast! Eleanor, I’m sure you were quite… filled this morning, were you?” Oh, she just couldn’t help herself. The sight of both their eyes wide and frozen limbs was just too delightful not to pass up. And she didn’t miss the panicked glance Chidi threw at Eleanor. “With breakfast?” They let out big sighs in relief and Eleanor was quick to nod her head in affirmative.

“Yes! Yup, I had an awesome breakfast this morning, it was… delicious” she said with nervous chuckle.

“I’ll bet.” At Tahani’s words, Chidi grabbed everyone’s attention by clapping his hands together with a awkward laugh of his own.

“Okay! Let’s talk about something other than breakfast! Michael and Janet informed me that they will be running a little bit late, so we’ll just hang out a bit before they get here. How about a card game?” Jason fist bumped into the air and pulled out his playing cards. A smart move on Chidi’s part, Jason and Eleanor are always trying to convince him to ditch the lesson and play poker, this is the perfect distraction. But Tahani’s never been very fond of poker.

“I can shuffle them,” Chidi offered. Jason threw them to Chidi and he catched it with ease.

“Sure you know how to shuffle them properly?” Eleanor teased with a coy smile. Chidi tried to frown but his smile kept shining through.

“Eleanor, it’s really not that hard,” Chidi said, but she placed her hands over his before he can fully shake them out of the box. Tahani watched their eyes lock on each other’s and could practically see their pupils form into pink hearts. What fools.

“It’s a lot harder than it looks, babe.” She bets they didn’t notice her slip up. “But I can teach you if you asked.” Chidi didn’t have time to reply before Jason slammed his hands onto the table. Tahani jumped out of her skin at the startling noise and was about to scream her displeasure when Jason pointed a finger at the two of them.

“YOU TWO HAD SEX!” He screamed. Tahani was still shaking from the loud noise and pressed a hand over her heart. She barely registered Chidi’s horrified “What?!” and smacked Jason on the chest.

“Jason! You scared me half to death! What is wrong with you!”

“Woah, woah woah. What makes you think we had sex?” Just in that moment, Janet and Michael made a commotion of walking through the door mid conversation, effectively silencing the four of them. Michael stopped in his tracks when he saw all of them staring and frowned in confusion. But, as quickly as he stopped, his eyes lighted, his jaw dropped, and he pointed past herself at Eleanor and Chidi.

“You guys had sex, didn’t you!” He yelled and Tahani clapped in excitement. Eleanor threw her hands in the air and laughed incredulously.

“How?” Chidi stuttered and dropped his head into his hands. Foolish darlings. She hoped she’d get to plan the wedding.

Making Fun Of You

Having spent pretty much every waking moment together with Chidi for the last eight months, it was almost inevitable for you not to develop feelings for the surprisingly jacked walking sweater-vest. Living in the same house, him teaching you ethics and making you a better person had really done you good and you were surprisingly content with the new person you were. He was your soulmate after all. Even though you had spent all this time together, your change in relationship status had come only a couple of days ago after a very big push from a surprising source since you hadn't expected it to come from her. Tahani had been a friend of yours since you and she had almost lost your soul mates to a couple of the other woman in town, who had been trying to steal both Jason and Chidi away from you. You had confessed your feelings for your soul mate before you had even been sure of those feelings your self and now that you had, she had been a constant source of encouragement when you needed it and a listening ear when you just needed to vent. So now that you and Chidi were a couple you had decided to spend the day out in town together, you were meeting with Tahani and Jason later but right now it was just the two of you, walking and talking about anything and everything.

You had been caught in a conversation with a couple of other residents when Chidi returned to your side handing you a pottle of frozen yoghurt, and when you took a spoonful of it, you moaned in delight before turning to him and asked

“How'd you know?” he smiles at you and says

“It's Wednesday before noon, which means that you are in the mood for Humpday flavour with a side of Get away from me,” he says and you chuckle

“Damn straight it is,” you say taking another scoop and placing it in your mouth, Chidi is about to take a bit out of his own mouth when you place a kiss on Chidi's cheek to which he smiles and blushes, looking down at his feet before he gasps and points at his shirt. You look down at his shirt and chuckle at him

“Good job Chidi,” you say before he says

“Help me please Eleanor” you shake your head and say

“You know, I would help, but making fun of you is so much more satisfying”. As he cleans himself up you can tell that he's not grumpy with you as you see the hint of happiness and cheekiness in his eyes and smile happily, as you dunk your spoon into his frozen yoghurt and have a taste, before you say teasingly

“Nothing like a spoonful of indecision in the morning”.

Eleanor’s always been pretty smart.

She reads when her mom is on the couch sipping Chardonnay, and when her dad is watching football, stoned out of his mind. She finishes her times tables in 4 minutes flat, and her middle school teachers sing their praises at parent teacher conferences.

(Too bad her parents aren’t sober enough to understand)

In eighth grade, her teachers recommend her for the honors classes in high school- geometry, english, biology.

But then her fourteenth birthday hits and she can’t stand it anymore. She hands her parents the emancipation papers. She buys her own apartment. She has to survive by herself.

She begins working night shifts as bartender. Yeah, she started bartending when she was 11 so she’s good at it, and they start giving her more shifts. The bills stack up. She works. The rent check is due. She doesn’t have time for homework anymore. She’s falling asleep in class.

The teacher cold calls on her. She stammers out an answer. Incorrect. Everyone in the class laughs. The teacher scolds her for not knowing the answer. Jessica raises her hand and announces in a snotty voice, “The answer is Pakistan, Eleanor.”

She slumps down in her seat. She tries to pay attention again but she can’t. She doesn’t have time for the work, the material, the rigor, and she has more important things to worry about. She needs to work. She needs to eat.

She stops trying. She adapts a defensive persona. She claims she doesn’t care about learning, or reading, or all that nerd stuff, so why bother? She sleeps in class on purpose. She blurts out ridiculous answers in class. She passes with Cs at the end of the year, which is perfect. It’s just good enough to move on to the next grade, but not good enough to be in honor classes again next year. It’s just what she wanted. Now she never has to hear the students whisper about how dumb she is, or complain when she’s placed in their group project, or wonder how she even got into the class.

That’s why when Chidi first starts teaching her ethics, she refuses to do the work. She knows she can read that David Hume book, she knows she enjoys listening to him ramble on about Aristotle, but why bother? He was just going to make fun of her if she asked a dumb question, just like how the teachers did in ninth grade.

But she sees how hard Chidi tries. He sacrifices his own time to plan lessons for herself everyday. He offers, without Eleanor’s plea, to give up more of his time to teach Jason too, even though he’s more of a lost cause than Eleanor. And so she tries. She reads the David Hume book once, then once again, and when class begins the next day, she has a million questions.

“Hey, page 50, line 3. Are you sure he’s not talking about masturbation?”

And as soon as she blurts it out, she regrets it instantly. He was going to make fun of her, she was sure. It was the fifth time she had asked that question in class. He went to the Sorbonne and taught the most intelligent students in Australia and conversed with the some of the best scholars in the world. There was no way he didn’t find her question stupid, that he wouldn’t ridicule her in front of Jason, the dumbo.

But he tilts his head and his mouth opens a little as he smiles at her. His eyes are shining and his smile is kind, and Eleanor feels like swallowing just a little from his warmth.

“You know,” Chidi pauses thoughtfully “He just might be. Why don’t we take a look? Jason, can you take out your book?”

And all of the sudden, for the first time since she was fourteen, Eleanor loves learning again.
