Gown by Joey Galon, ATELIER The weekend of Oct 6th 2018 was the weekend I was supposed to fly to Houston to attend my dear friend & former Miss Universe - Chelsi Smith’s memorial service. I unfortunately had to cancel my trip last minute due to other events that I was not able to get out from. In the interim just a two days before the show, I decided to move forward and showcase a piece at Metropolitan Fashion Week and design and construct something in honor of Chelsi. Over 30 designers showcased a fashion inspired piece from an item inspired at the King Tut exhibit in Los Angeles. I chose the King Tut weapon that he used to hunt for ostriches. It was this tall, strong, golden ornate staff with Egyptian insignias all over it which one adorned ostrich feathers. I decided my design tribute to Chelsi Smith had to represent a strong, warrior woman, something that was symbolic of Chelsi and her battle with liver Cancer and her fight in her career succeeding various adversities she had faced. This gown was about power whom I know represented Chelsi so very well. R.I.P. my dear Chelsi. Continue to soar high with Angels! 🙏🏼 Gown by Joey Galon, Atelier Model: Ariana Manibog @metropolitanfashionweek #chelsismithmissuniverse #chelsismith #metropolitanfashionweek #tribute #honor #cancersucks #joeygalonatelier #joeygalon #fashiondesigner #realitytvpersonality #fashiontvreporter #fashiontvcorrespondent #designer #artist #filamfashiondesigner #missusa #missuniverse https://www.instagram.com/p/B_unst6ngVD/?igshid=18jwm7zrwsqyt
