also, the master slowly becoming an anti-hero is really interesting! the rani isn't morally gray, she's amoral, as in she just doesn't have a moral compass in general. killing a sentient subject in an experiment, to her, is the same as killing a lab rat - unfortunate, but ultimately, science can be messy. while keeping these things in mind, im trying to actually maybe give her some character development where she starts to develop just the slightest, tiniest bit of empathy, so the idea of the master, who has done all these horrible things, slowly becoming an anti-hero is actually kind of perfect bc im trying to work out how to make her less of a one-dimensional coldhearted scientist villain stereotype. and i have ideas, but for now im still working on that portrayal.
