Zen offered a small smile, cheeks slightly flushed in slight embarrassment at her actions. He settled onto the couch and waited on her to return.

Golden hues remained fixated on the screen, using every fibre of his will to block out the very existence of the other in the apartment with him. The only thing that mattered right now was making sure it was safe to be here. Nothing else mattered. Not his feelings. Not that he’d seen him here. Not all the secrets being kept by V. None of it. Only her safety here mattered to him right now, the rest could be dealt with later when he could get away from it all.
This was all for the best. { or at least that was what he continuously tried to convince himself of }
Of course, it would all be much easier if Chaerin stopped insisting on talking to him as often as this. It was a distraction — one that served each time as a reminder that all of the time with her and with the RFA had only ever been temporary. Even this situation they’d found themselves entangled in was only to be brief. That though, only made it all the more challenging to just let go.
Leaning back in the chair, her words prompted his gaze to shift once again to her figure, annoyance mixing with the ever present tiredness in his eyes. The size of his heart ? Who was she to know about such a thing. With the life he’d led it was almost laughable to assume he even had a heart to begin with; even more irrational to consider someone would envy it. If it was meant as sarcasm though, then it wasn’t funny in the slightest.
“ There’s nothing for you to envy about me or the way that I live, and especially the size of whatever is left of my heart. Now, can you PLEASE stop distracting me at every opportunity, I’m trying to sort this out as fast as I can so I can leave before this gets any more uncomfortable or dangerous for both of us. ”
