Hi I was just wondering if it was insanely difficult to get into Oxford. It just seems so difficult, because we have such different standards then they do (S.A.T's ACT's ). But most of all Congratulations!! I hope to one day study Biology there.

Hmm I don’t really know how to answer this - it feels disingenuous to say it was incredibly difficult or simple, because it was neither. I’ve talked more in depth about my experience of the process here. The odds for someone from the US aren’t exactly good, but even statistics like that are a bit silly, because it’s not as if they pick people at random. I think whether it’s incredibly difficult or just-right for you really depends on how well suited you are to Oxford and its methods (which are very idiosyncratic and different from colleges in the US.) The interviews are basically mock-tutorials, and they’re meant to be challenging, but not “insanely difficult” I don’t think. But they’re going to seem that way to someone who wouldn’t do well with the tutorial method or isn’t passionate about their subject etc. 

As for standards, I wouldn’t worry, because they specify international qualifications equivalent to A-Levels here. At worst, they may not know exactly how to evaluate your scores compared to the rest of applicants, so they’d weight any entrance exams as a heavier component of your application. The fact that you have American qualifications won’t prevent you getting an interview as long as you’re meeting/exceeding their requirements. Good luck! :) (And thank you!)
