Ingredients: 1 box of chocolate cake mix. 1 can 12 ounces of Dr. Pepper. 3/4 cup of vegetable oil. 3 large eggs. 1 cup of maraschino cherries, drained and chopped. 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. 1/4 cup of cherry juice from the maraschino cherries. 1/4 cup of powdered sugar for garnish. Whipped cream optional, for serving.
Instructions: Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and preheat the oven to 350F 175C. Dr. Pepper, eggs, vegetable oil, and chocolate cake mix should all be combined in a sizable mixing bowl. Blend until thoroughly blended. Mix the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped maraschino cherries into the cake batter. Distribute the batter evenly in the baking pan that has been greased. Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean, in a preheated oven. Make the cherry glaze while the cake bakes. The cherry juice and powdered sugar should be heated in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to thicken slightly. Take off the heat. When the cake is done, take it out of the oven and allow it to cool for ten minutes or so in the pan. Using a fork or skewer, make holes all over the cake. Next, evenly pour the cherry glaze over the warm cake and let it soak in. Before serving, allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
