"Would it kill you two to say something nice to each other?" She loves them both dearly, but sometimes....

"hey, so—i think you have my coffee?" usually, the coffee shop alex frequented wasn't as packed, but for whatever reason, this morning, it was mobbed. it was loud, annoyingly loud, and when the barista had called out his name, alex had missed it. when he finally got up there, his coffee order had been taken. thankfully, the barista knew who they'd given it off to, and they hadn't left yet, so alex was quick to approach them. normally, he'd let it go, but this place was expensive. "they probably gave you the wrong cup? it happens all the time here.

it was probably a dumb idea to surprise madison with lunch—madeline knew he was swamped with paperwork, which meant he often skipped lunch. he’d been complaining about it the other night at his apartment, that's when her idea formed. they didn’t see much of each other during the day—or at least, not recently. her schedule had become chaotic, so all they had lately were the occasional weekends, mornings, and late nights. so, she knew what to do when the free afternoon fell into her lap. after a brief greeting to madison's secretary, madeline found herself in his office. madison hadn't been in, so she made herself comfortable at his desk. carefully, she places the homemade meal on his desk, avoiding important paperwork and scattered files. taking the opportunity, madeline sits in his chair, smirking as she waits for the taller brunette to arrive.

CJ let out a dry laugh, the kind that didn't touch his eyes. He stepped forward, just enough to make her tilt her chin up to keep eye contact. "Damn, Blair," he said, his voice low and slow, the kind of calm that made his words cut sharper. "You spent four years with your little girl gang making my life hell. Called me every name in the book, shoved my lunch off the table, wrote shit on my locker. And now you're standing here mad that the 'fucking loser' glowed up into something you'd let ruin your makeup in the backseat." He took one step closer, eyes dropping to Blair's lips for a second before meeting her gaze again. "Nah, we didn't make the playoffs. But I still make more money in a week than you probably have in your savings account. And if I'm still a loser, what does it say about you that you're the one practically drooling?" CJ smiled, all teeth and no warmth. "Let me guess… You like the way I look now, but you miss the version of me you could control. Sorry to say it, princess. But that kid's long gone."

𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚍𝚎𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚛 , 𝚞𝚗𝚜𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚕𝚢 𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚖 , cast a chill that sunk deep into the bones , whispering secrets of deeds done in shadows . " you don't have to worry about him bothering you anymore .
