FILM SUBMISSION
Teenage Girl World is a short documentary that seeks to explore the intricacies and reclaim the narrative surrounding the teenage girl. Co-directors Jianna Justice and Emily Johnston embarked on this project because they were sick of thinking about creating art without actually doing anything. Both about to leave their teen years behind, the directors wanted to explore what being a teen girl means to different people in their lives. Interviews were done in Boston, MA as well as Atlanta and Athens, GA. Accompanying the mini-doc is music from the all-girl project Penny Lame featuring the two directors (http://pennylame.bandcamp.com/releases). Making the film has been an exercise in artistry, learning to take matters into your own hands, and learning to grow up as an artist and a person. Jianna Justice & Emily Johnston

SEE U THERE
There’s this depressive cycle I find most creatives probably find themselves in at one point or another. You produce something you like, other people like it, you make more, they continue to like it, but what happens when you feel like you can’t produce anything good anymore? All this pressure builds up because people are waiting for you, but the thought of not being able to produce anything good is enough to stop you creating all together out of fear of making something bad. It’s hard trying to find the balance between making art for myself and making art that other people like, but as I’ve started editing again I have realised that I forgot how much I love editing and how lucky I am that you like the end product. These past few months I haven’t felt that I was able to put the same amount of effort and personality into what I was doing, so I came to a stop completely. I’m still trying to figure this whole art thing out and I don’t know if I’ll ever have a complete grip on it, but I’m going to be a more dedicated artist from now on. I’m working on Cherry’s printed issue and I will be announcing the new theme for the next issue soon. Thank you for you patience and, as always, thank you for being here ♥
