Ri Shi and Ju Jing on their first and second date!

While it did take a while for these two to get together, their dates were quite the adorable ones.

The first one specifically was pretty special because Ju Jing discovered that Cherry's fur changes color under the moonlight. And the tall demon was so amazed by that, that after that date his number one nickname for Ri Shi became "goddess".

The second date didn't have any marvelous revelation like the first one, but it was still quite an emotional one. Specifically for Cherry, who was still getting used to Ju Jing's open display of affection.

Let me introduce ya to the lovely couple, Ju Jing and Ju Ling (and a grown-up version of Rascal)!

Ju Jing is a baker, but he also sculpts statues as a hobby, sometimes he sells them too. He's also a sweetheart and despite his stature, he's not a fighter. Ju Ling isn't a workaholic but she does like to keep herself busy and help however she can. She works as a waitress at a bar in the village near her house, but she also cleans clothes for the old people (who always pay her more than what she asks for). She met Ju Jing when she had to go buy bread and pastries for the bar and the usual bakery she frequented was closed that day, so she went to the next one. The demoness was absolutely loved by the folks of the town, but she wasn't as appreciated by the few other monkey demons she met (even being a demon it was strange for a macaque to have black fur).

The two of them didn't fall in love immediately, it was a gradual thing, but even before realizing their infatuation, the two liked to spend time together. When Ju Jing confessed, he brought Ju Ling to a field covered in flowers and offered some baked goods he had made for her. He was obviously thinking of the wrong courtship tradition, but Ju Ling only found it more endearing. And besides, she liked cherry pie.

Ju Ling later bought him a silver cuff with small decorations on it that he could wear on his horns (and she almost cried in joy when she found out that her boss and coworkers had put some money aside for her so she wouldn't have to work overtime just to afford the cuff), and Ju Jing made her a necklace with a few stones and obsidian.

For Ju Jing, falling in love with Ri Shi took a lot more time and was a lot bumpier than when he fell in love with his wife. The fear of feeling like he was replacing Ju Ling while also tricking Cherry was what held him back the most. But when the two got together, the tall oni had to help the other demon a lot, Cherry feeling often inadequate or very awkward with her limited knowledge of romance and affection.

Kai Hu (Rascal) grows up to be quite the tall boy. Not as tall as his father, but he does beat Cherry and even Macaque in height. With time, he's also going to develop his passion for music and even carve his own Dizi (Chinese flute), first from wood, and then a second one from stone (how can a stone flute work you may ask? Magic).

Two dads talking about their kids

This is, surprisingly, from an RP I'm doing with @elianaroselight. There are many moments that I want to edit and make into little one shots, because I really liked how some dialogues and interactions came out, but for now you get this very simple one.

Kai diverted his attention from the flute Beng was carving back to his parents, and he run happily to them when he saw that his mama was back. Ri Shi hugged her baby close "Hello, Pumpkin pie. Having fun with uncle Beng?" "Yes! The flute is almost ready!" Beng chuckled from his spot "Not almost kid. It won't be ready before after lunch" "That's okay!" Kai nodded and grinned brightly. "Do you want to keep watching as your uncle work or do you want to do something else in the meantime, Muffin?" Ri Shi patted the kid's head gently, watching as he purred happily in her hold. He took a moment to think before answering her "I wanna be with mama." The solar monkey laughed softly as he snuggles closer "Alright Kai. Do you want to do some yoga then?" "What's yoga?" "It's when I do those weird poses in the sun that you sometimes copy" "Oh! Yeah, okay!" He cheers and grins, causing his mother to laugh. The monkey gets up from her place next to Ju Jing and walks to the nearest spot that has a bit of sunlight. Kai eagerly walks up to her and she moves him around so that he's posing the same way she is "Try to copy me, alright Kai?" Kai nodded excitedly as he got ready to copy his mama. Ri Shi moves slowly, giving the little demon the time to imitate what she was doing. When he posed as close as possible he beamed with his tail wagging fast and the monkey couldn't help the little giggle that escaped her. Ju Jing grins as he watches happily next to Beng. After a bit, he turns to the gibbon "Would Bai He ever do this with Ba as a child?" "Sort of, Bai He mostly waddled around her mother when she was doing yoga or tai chi. Every pose her mother got in was an excuse to climb on her and look around" the old demon said with a soft smile, remembering every time he went to check on his daughter only to find her looking at her mom upside down. Ju Jing chuckles "Adorable. Would she do something similar to you?" "The climbing? Oh yes, every baby monkeys does that to be fair" Beng paused in his work to look at the oni in confusion "Did Kai Hu never do that with you?" "Not to the same extent. Not with me at least. He would ask to be picked up. I think he was scared to climb that high. But the rest of the family wouldn't get a break. Most of the time he would cling to them" The gibbon chuckled softly as he started to work on the wood again "Oh, that makes sense. He does look like a cuddly kid" "He definitely is. He is very much a family kind of kid." "That's good..." the old general speaks in a softer tone "It's nice to see that your tragedy didn't stop Kai to enjoy his life. And you too" "Thank you. Honestly, I have Ri Shi to thank for that... She has helped me through some of the darkest days and nights in my life. She helped me love again. She may not have the most natural of parental instincts, but she slipped into it much easier than she ever believes." "I'm sure you know this already, but she was very worried at first. More for Kai's sake than for herself. She ended up talking a lot with Ba and Mami, looking for advice and comfort." Beng patted Ju Jing's shoulder, giving him a sincere smile "She did a lot for you, but you also did a lot for her" The oni nodded slightly and smiled. "I didn't know her before, but I have certainly seen much growth in her since she came into my life." He says softly as he watches his wife and son. "I'm thankful she has had Mami and your wife to help her figure out motherhood... Was it as hard for Ba as it was for Ri Shi?" The gibbon took a moment to answer him "I'm afraid it was slightly harder for Ba. While she didn't plan to be a mother much like Ri Shi, she didn't have anyone to rely on outside of me. And for as many books on parenthood I read, there were still a lot of things I didn't know" Ju Jing hummed, understanding how hard it had to be for the gibbon couple "It's always scary when you start, isn't it? I was a nervous wreck for weeks after Kai was born. It wasn't good... The fact that our wives had rough times at slipping into motherhood and for the worries and fears we all had, we lucked out in having the sweetest and most forgiving kids out there, didn't we? " "Yes, we did... But I like to think it's not for luck, but because of her mother that Bai He is the way she is. Maybe it could be the same for Kai with both Ju Ling and Ri Shi?" "Because Ba needed someone as sweet as Bai He as her child? To help her with entering into motherhood?" "That too, yes. But also because, despite her fears and worries, Ba put her whole self into being the best mother she could be. I don't know what your late mate was like, but by looking at Kai I can tell she must have been pretty much the same" Ju Jing chuckles "To the point where I would have to ask Kai to help me get Ju Ling to rest, nap, or just relax in general. A busy body that adored Kai and being a mother..." Beng gave him a gentle smile, clearly understanding what the oni was feeling "She did a wonderful job with Kai, Ju Jing. You both have. And I think Ri Shi is learning to do the same" As he said that he turned around to look at the mother and son. The solar monkey was standing on all four with one leg up and Kai did his best to imitate her until he lost his balance and fell to the ground Ri Shi giggled softly as she sat down on the grass to help the kid up "Good job, cupcake. Wanna try it again?" The little kid nodded, showing his mom he was determined. The monkey laughed softly at his display before giving him a small kiss on the head and helping him get into position again Ju Jing chuckled. "I think he will remain sweet." He said amused to Beng.

Decided to add DoubleCherryPie (Ju Ling X Ju Jing X Ri Shi) to Dreaming in June so now y’all get to hear me ramble about them

What if Ri Shi and Ju Ling knew each other before the latter met Ju Jing? Ju Ling was Cherry's first friend outside of her own family and the two clicked together immediately. When Ju Ling meets Ju Jing, she tells Cherry all about him, sounding like she was lovesick. Cherry just nodded, not understanding until Ju Ling brings her to meet the oni.

Because it's the first time Cherry falls in love, she doesn't quite understand that she was experiencing an attraction, she doesn't understand why she feels certain things. So she asks Ju Ling and she explains it to her. After that Cherry apologizes to her friend, feeling like she was stealing from the other, but Ju Ling assures her that everything is fine and even asks her if she wants to talk about it further. Meanwhile, poor Ju Jing is feeling attracted to both girls and he is struggling with it. Hides it every time they come around, but still. Basically, he's having his own mental breakdown.

Ju Ling is a smart and observant demon so she easily realizes what is happening to the oni. She is the one to sit them all down and suggest the poly relationship. She has the braincell and we all love her for that.

A good thing about this is that Cherry and Ju Ling would balance each other nicely because, one is impulsive and will try to brute-force her way into a solution, while the other will slow down and look for the solution.

While at the same time, Ju Ling often gets too focused on something and forgets what's around her, while Cherry does her best to always be aware of who's near her.

Another good thing about DoubleCherryPie is, since Ri Shi isn't used to being loved so affectionately, she now has 2 people to shower her in love and affection! She is cornered and she can't escape from the affection.

Some domestic fluff: Ju Ling notices Ri Shi was having nightmares and asks Ju Jing if he can make Cherry something nice to eat while the two monkeys enjoy a warm bath with bubbly soap. Ju Ling makes sure her partner is pampered and enjoying herself by making jokes, talking, and singing.

Cherry tries to do the same thing when Ju Ling has nightmares. It doesn't work out quite the same, which frustrates the poor twin, but Ju Ling appreciates the gestures. Ju Ling loves that Cherry tried even when the other monkey has a hard time expressing feelings.

When Ju Jing has a nightmare about losing his girls, the girls immediately begin to comfort him. Cherry probably is the one to make something to eat, she makes Ma's Special Tea.

It's very in-character because both Ju Jing and Ri Shi have acts of service/making food as their love language (as well as physical touch for Cherry and words of comfort for the oni) while Ju Ling would say what is likely to happen and what could never happen, basically she reassures them through logic.

When Ri Shi exhales light pink smoke the first time... She panics and asks Ju Ling for help, thinking something was wrong with her. But then they narrowed in on its true meaning, and Cherry goes to hide under a ton of blankest while Ju Ling laughs.

Ju Jing is just confused as he was left out of the conversation. The light pink smoke happened and Cherry just booked it. Ju Ling won't hesitate to reassure the oni and explain to him what happened, even giving him some advice on what to do, but honestly, he ends up being flustered by them.

"I wasn't the one who did *lists something*" "Yeah well, I'm not the one who made our Cherry Blossom smoke up!"

Ju Ling is reading a book, sitting on Ju Jing's legs. The oni is just holding her, arms loosely around her middle, and his head resting on her back. Behind him is Ri Shi, grooming his hair, and Ju Ling is reading her book out loud for the other two.

The three of them really like to cuddle, and they often lay down, whether it's on the bed or in a grassy field. They are often joined by Kai, the little Rascal just climbs over the three and finds himself a spot, as cats do. Ju Jing is laying on his back or side, his girls laying their heads on his chest and belly as they cuddle Baby Kai between them protectively.

Kai's first word is mama, but it is said not to Ju Ling, but to Ri Shi. She holds him close after hearing his word, his little hands grabbing her face, and she just puts her head on his, crying and purring in happiness. Ju Ling hugs her partner happy and purrs as well. Kai squeals and repeats the word over and over happily

And what if Ju Ling and Ri Shi go on dates even if they are platonic? What if they give each other kisses on the face and purr loudly when they cuddle? WHAT THEN

They just like to share affection man. And being both monkeys, of course touch is their first go-to.

Though, being in a poly relationship, Cherry is still feeling terrified and often fears she might just be the third wheel. When Ri Shi manages to confess that to Ju Ling, to not only calm Cherry and shock her out of her worrying, but also to prove that it's okay, Ju Ling leaned in and gives Cherry her first ever kiss. It was chaste but it was the action in itself important. After the kiss, Ju Ling pulls the girl into her arms, hugging her tightly and purring loudly. "Ri Shi. You have no need to worry about this. You are dear to me and I want you to be happy. I want to help take care of you and be with you for the rest of our lives. And while I don't have the same romantic feelings for you that I do for Ju Jing, I do love you." Cue the tears

What ever happened to the demons who attacked Rascal's family?

WARNING: Panic attack, mention of past abuse, anxiety, stab wound!

After months of Ju Jing recovering from his injuries, the oni feels well enough that he can leave the mountain and take a much-needed walk around the city. Cherry escorts him around and she brings him to meet the other members of her family. They stop at Pigsy's noodle shop, where the tall demon has the time to relax and get used to a more crowded place than the island, and even chat for a while with the pig chef. Later, they meet Jin and Yin as well, Cherry really wanted to talk with the two older twins because sometimes Rascal would speak in a dialect she couldn't understand and Ju Jing wasn't always there to help her out. But the two horned demons go on the defensive the moment they see the much taller oni, not only because of his height but also for how close Ju Jing was standing next to their sister. Fortunately Cherry gets to stop them before they can do anything and even manages to share a bit of what had happened to the other demon and his son.  As if a switch was flipped, Jin and Yin become a lot more amicable with the other oni and even talk in their dialects every once in a while, and the monkey demon can see Ju Jing relaxing even more while Rascal tries to imitate the sounds his dad makes, with very little success but the scene is cute none the less.

But every nice thing comes to an end, and this time it arrives in the form of the demons who massacred Ju Jing's family.

The tall demon freezes the moment he recognizes them. Panic attack rises in him as he clutches his son close to him while the demons just sneer at him. Despite his size, Ju Jing was never much of a fighter, but that doesn't stop him from blaming himself for the death of Ju Ling and her family. He couldn't protect them. He couldn't save them. The only reason he has Kai still was because Ju Ling gave her life to save their son. He did not give his life to save her's. What kind of man, husband, and father does this make him?

The moment Cherry caught on to what was happening, she instinctually took a fighting position, and she thought Jin and Yin would do the same, but instead, she only heard the silver demon worryingly questioning Ju Jing. When she turned around to look at him, her blood started to boil in anger. She tells the other twins to help him and leave her alone with her enemies, and in the years they had known each other, Jin and Yin knew that when Ri Shi asked to be left alone with her opponents, it meant you had to leave her alone with her opponents.

Jin and Yin guide the demon and his son back to Pigsy's shop, and the chef only gives them a confused look before he sees the state Ju Jing is in. Any customers left in the shop get easily forgotten while the pig demons try to make the taller demon breathe and the twins take care of little Rascal.

Meanwhile, the demons Cherry is fighting mistake her for Ju Ling, and during the fight, the sick bastards try to make her falter by reminding her of the horrible things they did to Ju Ling before leaving her for dead. "Remember how we did this to you? Does your husband still love you after that? Does he still enjoy being with you?" If she wasn't sure she wanted to murder them before she sure was now and the demons quickly succumbed to the fury of the solar eclipse.

When Cherry comes back to the shop Rascal had calmed down severely, but he still reached out to her when he spotted his mama, and she took him from Yin's arms with no hesitation. The silver demon took the time to call his boss now that his arms were free. 

But Ju Jing was still doing poorly, his breathing quick and eyes glazed over, not really looking at anything. Cherry walks over to him and begins to purr loud enough for him to hear it. The demon looks at her, eyes unfocused, tears streaming down his face and a completely blank expression. He wasn't there mentally. She lays a hand on his arm, hoping to get his attention better, to which he looks at. He blinks a few times before looking at her again, eyes slowly coming back into focus. He realizes he wasn't in the street or at his old home. He was in the Noodle Shop. He was safe. His son was here and safe. Cherry was here and safe. He breaks down sobbing into her shoulder opposite to Rascal. She lets him do that and even leans into it, trying to comfort him more. His shaking was vibrating the monkey and kid in her arms, Cherry's fur brushing against the little one and tickling Kai who started to giggle. The laugh causes Ju Jing to smile slightly and kiss his son's head before returning to lay his head on her shoulder, not crying much anymore, but not wanting to rejoin reality just yet. Yin takes Rascal again, allowing Cherry to focus on comforting Ju Jing.

The moment is calm and Cherry can feel the other demon's slow and deliberate breaths, but her mind is going a mile a minute, her brain coming to a conclusion she never even thought of before.

She's only been this protective with those she considers her family, and while in the months Ju Jing was recovering he had become her friend, it felt much different from when she got used to any other member of her large family. She is learning a lot in that moment and doesn't know what to do with this information. But what she does know is that Ju Jing needs her help right now and as scared as she is, she can worry about that when he is no longer terrified and upset.

Macaque and Wukong finally reach the noodle shop and run in, startling everyone. Ju Jing flinches and tenses up, body ready to run if necessary, but he greatly relaxes when Cherry reassures him that it's just her fathers. The two immortal monkeys get moved to the side by Pigsy before they can question their daughter, and the pig demons give them a recount of what happened with Jin's help.

The solar twin even starts to pet Ju Jing's head to help him relax, and not only does it work, but she can feel some of the tension leaving his body. The oni is torn between hugging her close or not. He doesn't want to overstep boundaries but he wants and kinda needs a hug badly. In the end, he opts to instead make soft comforting noises, hoping that would be enough for his poor aching heart. He hadn't made any this extreme since that night, and even then, it was only to comfort Kai when needed. Otherwise, he hadn't used them. He used to be fairly expressive with them, with only Ju Ling doing it even more.

Cherry hears that and thinking he needs even more comfort, she starts to tell him that he is ok, everything will be ok. Ju Jing settles on just giving her a gentle hug, heart fluttering and a small flush on his cheeks from her words and actions. He knows she doesn't understand this stuff much and that she is trying her best. He can't help but appreciate it.

Involuntarily, Cherry starts to chirp for the taller demon, Ju Jing picks it up faintly and tightens his hug a bit more as his heart rate spikes, the sound brings a little smile to him. The sound gets picked up by Macaque and Rascal as well and the kid chirps and reaches out to be held by his mama as he didn't realize the chirp wasn't for him.

But when she goes to bend down to take the kid she feels pain flare up and coming from her side. She hisses from the pain and everyone is on alert, especially Ju Jing. Cherry had a few scratches and bruises on her from the fight, but she completely missed the stab wound in her side and it was now coming back with a lot of pain.

The oni next to her doesn't even get the time to ask her what's wrong before he notices a warm spot by his hand and a hole that he hadn't seen before. The smell of blood hits him all at once and he starts to panic again before Wukong takes Cherry away and brings her to Huaguo, where Zan can patch her up. The solar twin doesn't want to leave Ju Jing, not when it looks like he's panicking again, but Pigsy and Macaque reassure her that they'll stay with him and the kid, and the shadow monkey will bring them back to the mountain himself.

When Ju Jing and Kai arrive back on Flower Fruit Mountain, the first thing they do is check on Cherry.

The taller demon sits by her in silence, Rascal being the only one talking before he falls asleep, energy sapped by all the events that happened in a day. It takes some time but Ju Jing finally asks why she wouldn't say she was injured. She mostly plays it off, another bad habit she had taken from Wukong, saying that it wasn't that big of a wound and she had to deal with much worst in the past. But when Ju Jing asks her why she stayed and fought those demons, she takes a while to answer, choosing the words carefully.

"Those vile creatures did not deserve to keep living. You and Rascal might have not been part of my family when those demons attacked you, but you are now. I won't allow anyone to suffer anymore"

Ju Jing just stares at her for a solid minute, thought going a mile per hour. He opens his mouth to say something but finds he is unable to find any words. So instead, he lays his head on her shoulder gently, his hand finding hers and he holds it gently. It isn't super comfortable of a position to be in, but he doesn't want to move.

Unkown to Ju Jing, Cherry had become a dark shade of red as the taller demon holds her hand gently and lets out a shaky breath.

 "Just, don't do that again ... please"

Her blush deepens at his soft words, her own hand giving his hand a gentle squeeze. 

"I can't promise that. But I can promise to be more careful." 

She says softly back. He knows that fighting has always been part of Cherry, so he just nods in understanding. He makes noises of comfort, his thumb rubbing her knuckles softly and the two just stay like that in silence.

Until Zan walks in to see how Cherry is doing and if her wounds need new bandages, and then she immediately walks out.
