Rook really looked at Ed and thought, "He'll make a good substitute boyfriend for Chess."
And he wasn't wrong, but still...
The scene where Chess is laying in bed with Rook and Rook comforts him as Chess recounts how his mom used to pimp him out makes the scene where Rook lets Ixchel rape and feed from Chess hurt so much more.
I'm only just now finishing the first book, but I feel like without the heartbreak and betrayal, the characters of Hexslinger would be perfect in a WWDITS reimagining.
Rook and Chess are two madly in love and batshit crazy vampires.
They live in a giant old house with a third vampire, Hosteen, who is devoted to Chess.
Morrow is a vampire slayer going undercover as a familiar who accidentally fell in love with Chess.
Ash Rook really looked at Chess Pargeter and said, "I can fix him," then proceeded to make him worse.
..so he [Chess] and Rook were safely nose-to-forehead -- then dragged him down by the hair and kissed him hard, right there in the road for all to see. Morrow groaned, and not just from discomfort; even if the gunfire hadn't been enough to attract attention, the spectacle of two men treating each other the way neither would treat a woman whose favours he hadn't already purchased up front certainly would.
“The Hexslinger Series Volume One: A Book of Tongues” by Gemma Files
Translation: “Oh my god guys, Chess just shot a bunch of people in the middle of a busy city street. Can you two please not attract even MORE attention to us by sucking face? We are such shitty wild west outlaws.”
Everyone please read Hexslinger
“always knew i could count on you, darlin’”
the hexslinger series killed me a hundred times over and i dont know what to do with myself now besides draw these tragic bad men and cry a lot
So tonight’s Legends gave me some serious Hexslinger feels.
Chess Pargeter and Asher Rook.
Powerful as fuck, the both of them, Hexslingers in the wild wild west.
They love the fuck out of each other, so of course they hurt the fuck out of each other.
But damn they can’t love anyone else.
And then there’s Ed Morrow.
Poor Ed. He loves Chess, But Chess heart is with Rook, but he sleeps with Ed a few times, always honest about his feelings tho, and Ed knows.
Damn this episode made me think of them.
