Lord, Your Immortal Plant has Slipped Away Again - finished - 89 ch + 5 extras
Wow I nearly passed this over because of the low NU rating. So glad I didn't.
Premise: MC Ye Zi is an immortal plant (yes, like the one with the leaves and roots and stuff) who eventually gets the ability to turn into a human while under the obsessive care of prince ML Gu Yan. ML has spent the last 10 years being a liiiittle bit unhinged over his potted plant. Unbeknownst to the MC, this is actually their second life together-- in the first life, ML was the tyrant rebellious prince who failed to appreciate the kindness that previous-life!MC showed for him before previous-life!MC died for his sake. And so in their rebirth-life-do over, ML is determined to care for and love the MC to the utmost. Even if MC is now a plant. He will marry that plant. I mean, it could be worse, right?
Ye Zi is the most nimble, active plant in the universe. If you've ever read Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish and ever thought, "That's not how a normal fish behaves, Li Yu, what are you doing." towards Li Yu, rest assured that Li Yu has nothing on Ye Zi.
Gu Yan cleaning up after Ye Zi to keep his plant identity secret lol you and Mu Tianchi (of DTBPF fame) should have drinks together sometime.
Gu Yan taking his rebirth as an opportunity to stay away from court politics that eventually killed him in his previous life lol you and Jing Beiyuan (of Lord Seventh) should have drinks together sometime, too.
By the latter half of the novel, the plant shenanigans take a backseat to court politics and imperial maneuvering, but it was still fun for a quite a lot of the ride.
It's rare for me to find a novel where the shou is better at fighting/swordsmanship than the gong, I'm kind of delighted. Actually, the MC-ML relationship was quite a lot of fun. If you ever thought, "Why is the gong always the one who eat the shou's tofu, them shous should also take advantage!", here's Ye Zi for you.
There's a side couple! The side couple is also cute! The side couple is human x bird. Yes, we are all-in on the nonhuman romances here.
Yeah, it was pretty good! A feel-good novel with happy endings all around. Put fertilizer on your local plants today.
