Knitting selfie from yesterday's unseasonably summer-like weather at our happy little gay beach.
On the needles are a pair of two-at-a-time toe up socks with Patons Kroy, because we all need some basic socks.

Photobombing Seagulls
Sept. 2022
I live in my Chicago bubble that I forget people outside of this city don't know we have beaches here.
We in fact do have sandy beaches and blue waters like an island (sometimes lol)
And not just Chicago. Indiana Dunes is childhood fave I would love to visit again. Wisconsin, Michigan, Ontario most places along the Great lakes have gorgeous beaches.
sand, sun, and E. coli
This is a fun story from the Center for Humans and Nature about Chicago, the beaches in Chicago, the Chicago Park District, sea gulls, sea gull poop, e. coli and border collies. Most of the time when the Chicago beaches were closed by the Chicago Park District, it was because of a high e. coli count. The e. coli count was high, why? Because these guys pooped in the sand and the water:
The Chicago Park District used to turn border collies loose in the sand on the beaches to shag the sea gulls away. Such as this border collie:
No more. Why? First, the Chicago Park District stopped closing the beaches, even though it continues counting the e. coli. Now, flags are posted warning swimmers of the e. coli risk. No more border collies. Why? The EPA refused to allow its grant money to be used for border collies.
Just for context, when I say I live by an absurdly large lake, this is the beach down the street. I do not recommend swimming in this water without a buddy. Thankfully, Princess gracefully guarded the grill from gulls while Pants and I jumped in the waves.
They are pretty good fire cooks. I happily eat their food.
As a polycule, we regularly do dinner together twice a week. It took several years, a serious injury, and discovering $5 movie night at the local cinema before we got our rhythm down, but it helps keep us bonded.
We’re very much a vee, not a triad. For this to work, I could not be the one dictating the when and what of our polycule adventures. Princess and Pants had to find things that they both were comfortable with and excited about and then invite me along.
Okay, like every other week it is us doing laundry. No one is excited about doing laundry. But having food and company does make it better.
Had to bring champagne to welcome in a new year of Hollywood Beach Swim Club!
Sunday morning swim club feeling a lil bit like welcome week
Gonna try the new knockoff swim club tomorrow 🤞🏻
