Was it right for Brett to place responsibility on the other PIC? Doesn't she take some of the blame?
So the Brett haters aren’t gonna like this, but she’s 100% in the right, and this is in no way on her. She was maybe a little intense about it, but that doesn't make her any less right. Especially after the dismissive attitude of the other PIC, which was completely unacceptable. She fucked up. And it screwed over another shift. That's a fear a lot of us carry.
Resetting and restocking the rigs between calls is a top priority. Even on a rough shift. Even when you feel about to drop with exhaustion. For exactly the reason we saw and more. Calls right at shift change happen. Before the oncoming shift can do their checks. A call comes in we go out. There’s no slow rolling or delaying to do those checks. We. Have. To. Go. And to do that with peace of mind, we have to trust that our fellow firefighters and medics on shift before us have done their jobs. And 99.99% of the time, they have.
Rough shifts suck. I'm sympathetic to that. We've all had rough shifts. But we still need to do our jobs.
