The new Chicago single “Firecracker” is here! And here are my thoughts... It’s super FUNKY! It’s got some soul! A bit of R&B going on! Also, very ‘70s-Esque! The bass and horns are so groovy! I love them! Man oh man! Mr. Neil Donell sings lead on this one as well! This time in a lower register though! The man can do it all! He’s very talented! Again, I think they chose the right person to sing it. After listening to it a couple of times I was like “Yeah ok, this works pretty damn well.” haha. What else can I say? It sounds like something they would’ve recorded back in the 70s. (Hence my ‘70s-Esque comment.) Which that’s pretty great that they went in that direction with this. A little call back to the “Old Days”, if you will. 😉 All the backing vocals are good too! When I first listened to this song there was one lyric in particular that caught my attention immediately and I thought it was so corny and hilarious that I literally burst out laughing. And I said to myself “Oh. This is so Jimmy Pankow.” And I mean, he actually co-wrote the dang thing! 😂 I don’t want to spoil the actual lyric here so once you listen to the song yourself, I think you will definitely know what I’m talking about. It’s hard to miss. It hits you right away. lol. Overall, this is a really nice song. Very catchy and gets you moving and grooving. Probably still not one of the strongest songs so far. But very worthy of a listen! I honestly prefer “If This Is Goodbye” just a tad bit more over “Firecracker” But both songs are fun and guaranteed to give you a good time. Still very hopeful that the rest of the songs on Chicago XXXVIII will just keep getting better and better. I have to give it to them! They did an amazing job so far!
