Syringe fed Omega a couple of times today. Started him on the only medicine I could think of. Bless his little heart, he wants to be pecking around doing chicken stuff with the others so bad, but he's just so small. It's like he froze on the second day out of the egg. Stuff I read said this is why you shouldn't help a chick out of the egg: if they are too weak to get out of the egg, they are probably too weak to make it. But I also read cases where the assisted chick grew up fine. I had to try. Omega in his peep pouch. He's still so tiny. Twelvsies figured out how to fly out of the Lil Kids brooder so she got moved to Big Kid's. Omega still has two roommates, but any time they are out from under the heater and not with him, he cries. I stick him in his pouch and then type one-handed while trying to get him to sleep. He likes his pouch. I can see his sassy grown up self in my mind. I hope he can shake off this runty stage. Frannie. I rejoice for those saved... I mourn for the lost. Her wound is horrifying. I'm supposed to wash it twice a day and put ointment on it. The vet was very hopeful and said she said heal right up. 🤞 Her poor, proud tail is hanging on by a thread of skin. 😣 It appears the culprit was a fox. Vet said raccoons just twist their heads off (😲). I watched a video: foxes go right for the back, right where she is hurt. Fox went for Fran. Fran fought back (there was a string of something black on her beak. Let it be the cad's muzzle!) Fran escaped. Fox turns to Nadine. Chomp and run, giving the others time to flee. One good thing though: chickens can't get rabies.
