surprise, surprise, i'm thinking about the chickmore interaction again

there's so much about chick that gets revealed in these five lines

he gets complimented so rarely, he instinctively tried to brush off fillmore (because chick thought he was insulting him)

he gets complimented so rarely, the nice & warm feeling that comes with it is foreign/unknown to him

he really wants people to like him. or, more interestingly, he knows how much people don't like him

he genuinely doesn't know *how* to make people like him

(this is veering into hc territory) he doubts being cool/being nice would get ppl to like him since. y'know. being nice to his competitors is what made his dad NOT like him

what messes me up is fillmore's last line though. you'd think that later in the game, chick was gonna visit fillmore's racetrack, right? WRONG! chick never shows up and he's nice to exactly one (1) person after this whole interaction. major missed opportunity from the writers smh 🤦‍♂️
