Beer 155: Dogfish Head Chicory Stout

This is a nice gentle stout. A solid stout. A stout stout? It begins with just a hint of nutty sweetness and then slowly builds into a nipping bitter coffee flavor. Their is distinct hazelnut aroma. I really enjoy this stout. It has been great to sip by itself but seems to have the chops to pair well with some desserts. Perhaps I will have to test this.

Dogfish Head Chicory Stout. It hit me as very reminiscent of Guinness but with more of a mocha essence. It pours out a black color with a tan head that has good lacing. The aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is very similar to the aroma. Primarily roasted malts and cocoa with a coffee undertone. It’s very full in flavor despite being rather lite in body. The sweetness from the malt and cocoa is balanced out with the slight bitterness of the hops. Great brew.
