I'm currently writing a guide kinda about Rollers, Krak-On tbs, but mostly about playing a 'Shooter' when you have 0% skill/experience or came completely from another Genre (ex, Fighting Games/Smash) and how I've applied it to my game and make the KOSR not another Noob Crutch weapon. I suggest perhaps a guide on Improving Aim/Gun choice when it comes to how well you aim?
This is a good idea, actually. I’ll start something up and add it to my ever growing list of guide drafts. Splatoon is looking to hopefully become the Smash Bros. of Shooters, and I know that a lot of people who don’t normally play shooters have picked it up, myself included.
To start off, I can say that when it comes to playing against other human beings, the Splattershot Jr you start off with is a fantastic weapon for beginners to use. The wide spread makes aiming less difficult, the rapid fire rate also makes combat easier, and its ink efficiency is fantastic. And while its range leaves a lot to be desired, its Sub and Special Weapons are great tools to have in almost any situation. If you’re still not very confident in your aim, you can try to use a Roller type weapon and focus on catching people off guard or avoiding combat altogether.
Of course, there is no harm in trying a weapon type you’ve never used before in Turf Wars just to see how you do. The only penalty to losing Regular Matches is that you don’t get the extra 300 points of exp/dosh at the end of the battle, and while that does add up to make a lot of dosh over a large amount of games, it’s not worth fussing over. You’ll have a lot more fun if you just play to enjoy yourself or to learn than if you play to win, especially if you feel like you have a long way to go before you’re “good.” And remember that the single-player mode is a great way to learn a lot of how the game works and lets you practice your aiming in a more controlled environment than online.
And, as always, thanks for reading, and enjoy your games!
