“Jody? What are you doing here?” You asked as you came out of the bathroom to see the woman waiting in front of your room.
“The Chief was worried about you, he asked me to check up on you. How are you feeling, kiddo?” She asked, hugging you. You held up the pregnancy test with two pink lines on it. The older woman sighed deeply. “Come on, let me take you to the doctor?” You nodded your head, knowing at this point there wasn’t much they would be able to do other than get you on vitamins.
“When was your last cycle?” the woman behind the counter asked at the rent-a-doc.
“I’m not sure. I had previously been told I wouldn’t be able to have kids. A hunting accident,” you said not wanting to give too much away.
“Alright, we will get you in for an ultrasound,” She responded lazily. You and Jody rolled your eyes, knowing that it wasn’t going to show very much.
“I’ve been super sick, was it like that for you?” You asked Jody. She nodded her head, then stopped and looked at you.
“You’re having morning sickness at three weeks?” Jody asked. She was practiced in not giving anything away, but her jaw might as well have hit the floor.
“I guess it wasn’t that way for you,” You muttered as a nurse called your name, and Jody followed you into a dark exam room.
“This is going to be a little cold, and depending on if it’s still early, we might not be able to see anything yet,” The technician said, squirting gel on your belly. She pressed the wand low on your abdomen and moved it around. “Well that was easy,” She laughed. “There is your baby.”
You saw the screen with Jody holding your hand. It was there and surprisingly discernible in the grainy black and white image.
“How far along?” Jody asked, leaning in some.
“Based on the size, let’s see. Looks like nine weeks, five days. So almost ten weeks,” Jody’s and your grip tightened as you realized what that meant. “I’ll have the front desk set you up for a full appointment so they can get your history and take a bunch of blood. Here, let me print you some pictures, congratulations.”
“Can we come back another day?” You asked the scheduling nurse.
“Okay,” she sighed and handed you a card with their phone number to call them.
“Ten weeks?” Jody asked when you were both safely in the car.
“Michael said there would be side effects. What does this mean?” You rubbed your hands over your face.
“You should talk with Castiel and the Chief,” she said in a way that didn’t make it sound like a suggestion.
“Sam, I need to talk to you,” You said, trying to keep up with the tall man’s pace.
“Yeah, alright talk,” He said. He was always busy these days with all of the apocalypse world people, but you didn’t want to talk in front of them.
“It’s about Michael,” You whispered, hoping to clue him into your desire for discretion. He stopped in the hallway to turn and look at you.
“Hiya Sammy,” Dean’s gruff voice called and you both turned and looked at the green-eyed hunter.
“I just don’t like it,” Dean said about Sam’s beard as you were all trying to understand what had happened to Dean over the last three weeks.
“I’m gonna go lay down, Chief,” You said not sure how to talk to Dean about what had happened and how you should tell him that it was all your fault he had been gone and now, there was something wrong. You flopped onto your back on the bed and let yourself drift without sleep.
“Hey, you said you needed to talk to me?” Sam asked standing in the doorway of your room. You hadn’t been able to stay in Dean’s room after everything that had happened with Michael.
“Uh, yeah, what happened to the beard? Nevermind,” You said as he shook his head. “Jody took me to see a doctor today. Jesus, I don’t even know how to say this,” You pushed your hair from your face. “The baby is growing faster than it should. They said he was close to ten weeks in size.”
“What does that mean?” Sam asked, looking you over and sitting down next to you to put an arm around your shoulders.
“I don’t know,” you said wiping futilely at fresh tears. “Sam, I’m scared.”
“It’ll be alright,” Sam said, placing a brotherly kiss to the top of your head.
