So this one is actually from the Circle and tended to get circulated among the apprentices: There was a myth/horror story the older apprentices would tell the younger ones about a spirit that had escaped the Fade and lived in the library, and this spirit would live in books that you left out and open, and if you tried to go back to it, the spirit would suck you into the pages too.

Technically it was true, in a way - a Curiosity spirit had gotten loose and caused absent-minded mischief in the library, but that had been several decades before Nanna was even born. It was just a tale that had grown over the years.

Now, obviously Nanna's too old to actively believe in stories like that, but it did start the habit of closing books that are just left out in the open. Half the time she's not even thinking about it. Not if it's clearly and actively being used, of course, but if she sees one that's just been left out and no one's clearly coming back for it, she marks the page and closes it herself.

The instructors let it be more often than not because it encouraged these damn kids to stop leaving their books out in the open everywhere and clean up after themselves for once.

     there goes any hope that leliana might have held that this could remain casual. those were the words that she had repeated under her breath ( this is just helping out, this is just keeping a friend company in a sea of uncertainty ) when she found herself once again tangled with josephine beneath sheets that, while simple, glide against their skin akin to the finest silks thedas has to offer. 

     leliana pauses, legs already handing over the edge of the bed, sheets clutched to her exposed frame - she feels more naked now than she had done a half hour previous, as hard as that might be to believe. she’d tell herself that she’d hoped to avoid this - getting attached yet again, the inevitable heartbreak were something to force them down different paths - but deep down, this is what she longed for.

Oh, no. Oh no, oh no, oh no. She was really in for it this time. Sure, Yvette hadn’t exactly thought this through, but preparing her journey to Ferelden should have been as easy as dropping out of her university! She had sent notes to her Orlesian professors and tutors explaining her family’s situation, forged Josephine’s signature with a practiced hand, purchased the requisite furs and supplies in Val Royeaux, and then slipped out of the city without a whisper to her family. Mama had always sung the praises of their merchant ancestors, the ability to shift with the wind and change their family’s fortune on a dime. Yvette knew that Lady Fortune, her beloved muse, was on her side. Yes, the Orlesian merchant she had chosen to procure the “authentic” Fereldan clothing from spent most of his time creating costumes for the opera, but how was she to know that they wouldn’t hold up to the cold? At least she had painted a pretty picture to the pilgrims who had found her half-frozen, which had given her the opportunity to deepen her family’s connections in Ferelden while they brought her to the healers, thank you very much. A little pneumonia head cold and chest cough was a small price to pay to advance the Montilyets’ reach. She hoped against hope that Leliana had received the note she had begged a healer to take to the rookery before her sister intervened. Sitting up in bed, propped up on two pillows, Yvette arranged herself to look as pitiful as possible, which did not take much effort, before she turned towards the sound of the opening door. “Hello?”

“ Mistress Montilyet.” Eden greeted as he walked into her office. A smile graced his lips as he carried over a tray of dinner, along with a nice glass of wine. 

“ Ye ken, if ye work too hard, ye’ll already have one foot in the grave.” he teased as he sat the tray down in a vacant spot on her ornate desk. 

“ Also ah hear it causes wrinkles.” he grinned then. “ Tis why ma face is so smooth.”

           the elf had nightmares before all this, but they had never been as bad as they had after haven. suddenly she had dreams about being buried underneath the snow, trying to scream for help to no avail, her voice only becoming more and more muffled as she began to lose feeling in her fingers. this dream was close, of the feeling of corypheus pulling her up like she weighed nothing and tossing her aside. she awoke with a start, gasping for air that soon became sobs.

              josie’s hands on her arms helped bring her down to earth once more, but the sobs didn’t stop as she buried her face into the other’s nightgown.

Avvar weren’t strangers to some of the arts, they had songs and poems! However, Raserei imagined those of Orlais would argue with him on if Avvar music and poems were that. Everything about those people was opulent beyond belief. So much waste, it was nauseating sometimes. Granted he was biased, but that aside the people of Orlais were something else. 

Now there was the fact he seemed to have caught the eye of a noble, lightening shot down his spine. It made the situation more...difficult to navigate. Josephine ever smart and knowing clearly sensed this, she knew, he told her about everything, he had to. The Vashoth appreciated her offer to handle the matter herself, but he couldn’t keep hiding like a scared child. He couldn’t let the scars of his past to continue to rot within him and fester. 

Raserei sighed, “No, no I will go. You can’t keep giving me the option to avoid these people, because I’m likely to keep taking it,” he smiled at her, “You know I hate dealing with the nobles.”

Lowlander culture was a bit out of Raserei’s depth, but noble scene of Orlais and this “Game” they play? He might as well be tossed out to sea with iron tied to his feet. He was a sinking ship.

“Besides what’s the worst that could happen?” His Avvar ass could cause a international and cultural incident, “Don’t answer that.” 

“I guess this means I’m going to have to wear something other than my furs and vitaar.” he grumbled, “And another thing, her swooning, over me? Really? Are you sure it’s just not the Inquisitor title?”
