The Dragon Age series is a dark fantasy rpg and deals with heavy, potentially triggering material. Please explore at your own discretion!
𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄/𝐃𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄. The Warden is a blank slate character, and as such Nanna is going to be as unique as the next Warden PC. That said, over the years I’ve fleshed out a lot of the lore surrounding both Nanna’s personal story and the world around her. In comparison, the writing of the series has hard-deviated from its own lore in recent installments, so I take several liberties in my own writing.
𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄/𝐃𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐈𝐈. Nanna is elfblooded, but this blog does not acknowledge the whole 'mixed children get absolutely no physical traits from their elf side' thing. I don't enjoy it as worldbuilding imo, smacks a bit of Unintended Implications, and there's just never been a sufficient explanation as to why that's the case. It's not something that will come up much, but I’m specifying because I’ve had people try to argue this point with me about my own character and I just do not care to. Everybody can do what they want, but I'm hard canon divergent on this point.
ACTIVITY. I'm middlingly active. I'm typically present Monday-Friday, but I have a mentally draining and time consuming job that goes bonkers on the weekends, so Saturdays and Sundays I won't be very present if at all. At most I'll have something queue'd for that day, maybe a shitpost or two, but not much else.
𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆. After this long in the rpc, I've come to realize that plotting with people I haven't written with yet isn't one of my strengths. I'm a sh person, and it's hard for me to get a grip on character dynamics I haven't seen yet. So a few shared memes or even just sporadic interactions are the best way to get something going, and gives me a much better idea on what our muses jive with !
IMPORTANT: My tumblr ims are all fucked up. If you message me for plotting and I never get back to you, it's because ims just aren't telling me you responded, never because I'm not interested anymore!
𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆. This blog is multiship, but I prefer to discuss them thoroughly with potential partners. Ships come slow for me, but it’s something I really enjoy when we hash it out. Should the potential pop up, I will only ship with muns 25+! If you don’t have your age posted somewhere on your blog, I won’t follow you to begin with.
𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐈𝐈 There's a non-0% chance I'm going to talk about the in-game romances, how they affect Nanna and which ones she participates in within my personal canon, but this does not affect any rp interactions. This is for personal exploration and drabbles for Nanna's worldstate only unless we've discussed otherwise.
𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑. A note on my portrayal is that Nanna is a very physically intimate person, with gestures like face holding, leaning on someone's shoulder, etc. something she uses to show affection in a general, platonic way. None of these will be used directly to push a ship on anyone! Either an ic or ooc nudge is enough to signal if you or your muse is uncomfortable with that.
𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐒. I’m more than happy to do multi-warden interactions! I am THE warden lover, there’s space enough for all origins. However, the presence of another warden will drastically affect how my muse grows in the story, and I have had Nanna's agency bulldozed and disrespected by other Warden rpers in the past, so I would appreciate communication between us for these types of threads.
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒. The Dragon Age series is a dark fantasy series, meaning it encroaches on a lot of sensitive and uncomfortable areas and Origins is the least shy about broaching these topics. While I don’t plan on diving into all of them outside of world building/related hcs very often, everything will be tagged with a trigger warning ( ex: ‘subject’ tw ). Any sexual or otherwise related writing will be tagged as “ usfw cw “ since tumblr’s bans have heavily affected the old tag.
𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐒. As mentioned, this series deals with a lot of heavy material. Not everything will be written out, but may be mentioned in meta posts or general discussion over lore. Potential triggers will be as follows: murder, death, war, assault, systemic oppression/imperialism, slavery, fantasy racism & sexism, & body horror elements.
𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐒𝐌. I adore this series to bits. It’s among my favorite franchises period, but I enjoy talking about problems I see sometimes, be that points of lore or characters directly. It’s not a personal attack on anyone’s opinions, but this is my space and I’m gonna periodically sprinkle salt about it alongside a lot of analysis cause I think it’s fun.
𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑. I will not, under any circumstances, write with or follow anyone using AI art. This is an immediate hard block from me.
I have a lot of original head canons and world building specific to my portrayal. Do not take anything off my blog without permission.
Other than that, I work a full time job that's both physically and mentally exhausting; I write slow as a result, so patience from my partners is appreciated!
I don’t think it’s talked about much because in the current climate, not many people really think Loghain leaving Cailan behind in Ostagar is his biggest crime to confront him on at the Landsmeet, but I think everyone should do it at least once to hear the rare moment of genuine grief he lets slip when he talks about it
Alright so I’ve been reblogging those gifsets on Nanna’s body language and basically “disney princessy”, so let's get into it more thoroughly. This is just gonna be her general casual air, especially post-circle, so its excluding her more formal-presenting self which is a completely different thing entirely.
Nanna's most natural physical movements tend to play along a line of airily elegant, playful and a little bit coy. She's not an idle person and doesn't tend to stay still, either floating about in place of pacing or swaying on her hips when she has to stay still, and often very openly talks with her hands. This comes out most when she's in easy or familiar settings—Nanna at her most natural is a very emotionally open person, and that comes through very vividly in her body language.
She's also very prone to walking on the front of her feet. Some of this is carryover from her experience living in the Circle—Nanna had a habit of preferring to keep a degree of lightness and silence when she moved about the Tower, hoping to attract as little attention as possible by moving as quickly and softly as she could, which contributed to the floatiness of her movements.
I describe it as “disney princessy” in a bit of a humorous way, but I do very specifically draw a lot on the model from the early era Helene Stanley; she did work for a lot of the physicality of those early era princesses, it’s an old movie era sort of glide combined with her ballet history, almost airy in the way she moves that’s emblematic of Nanna in a comfortable setting.
This is one of those things that I keep meaning to write but haven't gotten around to, but in semi-continuation of that prior hc, the Fade Shroud and drawing on the AW spirit's knowledge is why Nanna won her battle in the Landsmeet. No matter how much she's grown in combat, the Blight and her training had only lasted a year and Loghain is a hardened war veteran. She needed that boostie, but she still dropped him.
hand on my leg. Alright listen. There's a lot of exploration between DAO and DAI specifically that I really like that plays so well into this particular concept of the Fade and realms that linger between the waking world, the Fade, and the Veil. And the way I interpret it, places like the Crossroads(DAI) that Morrigan would call 'beyond this world and beyond the fade' in the Witch Hunt DLC—"formed from the fabric of time and space", "not the Fade, but very close" and "places between, like[the Crossroads]" in DAI—with the implication that I interpret as there being more like it and would have their own pathways woven in. Likely to have to be manually accounted for when handling the eluvians.
So how that plays into my interpretation of the Fade Shroud—before the raising of the Veil, the Fade Shroud is how the Arcane Warriors reconnected with their nature as spirits, lingering in the liminal space between Earth and Sky. For those that came after the spirit-born, their physical bodies would enter a liminal state that put them in a spirit-like state that let them access the moldable energies of the fade that came to define. This is the iteration of the art that's closest to what's accessible through the Arcane Warrior spirit.
When it comes to Nanna and enabling this ability with the Veil in place, "only partly existing" and "spanning the gap between the real world and the Fade" puts her in the same sort of liminal dimensional-spanning as those in-between realms and not directly being partially in the Fade itself despite it trying to draw directly on its magic. In a sense, she indirectly places herself on those pathways whenever she utilizes the Fade Shroud ability, which makes her relationship to reality tenuous while she's in that state.
There's an issue of compatibility that comes in to play as well considering Nanna learns it directly from an actual Arcane Warrior, fractured though they may be, which is why she does struggle in mastering it. The magic, insofar as I and my writing are concerned, is going to be fundamentally different than what is normally accessible because the laws of reality when the spells were created were also fundamentally different. Which is why Nanna furiously dedicates herself to learning what she can in the years since the Fifth Blight. It's difficult to engage with otherwise.
sometimes I still think about potential political marriage scenarios Nanna may have to face as arl and just know if it ever got too serious, she would start whipping out The Labours

just a little note out there for potential interactions is that, for those she has a good and trusting(important) relationship with, Nanna's not opposed to teaching some of her arcane warrior techniques. You're not gonna know directly about it unless she trusts you anyway. Considering the arcane warrior spirit she lives with, Nanna's pulling direct from the source here with stuff that isn't really going to exist in modern iterations.
the only caveat being that you do have to be an elf. Nanna's gone to great lengths in making sure the information and memories she gets from the AW spirit goes particularly to Lanaya and clan Alhannon and that anything going out comes from Lanaya otherwise, and especially in inquisition, she puts a lot of work in to make sure that information doesn't fall into the wrong hands - especially chantry hands. If you're the inquisitor as a non-elf you have the knight enchanter spec, you'll be fine
In June 1959, it was officially confirmed that Helene Stanley would be one of two live models for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. “The off-screen voice is spoken and sung by Mary Costa. Film personality Helene Stanley spent over two years as a model for the artists.“
Yesterday really sparked my thoughts up so after work I wanna turn around, from the perspective of my worldbuilding and my aw work, how the Fade Shroud functions in parallel to the realms between the fade and its similar function to the (DAI) crossroads
honestly rereading that reinvigorated some juice, so finishing those hcs that have been sitting will be a good exercise while the muse is still struggling
