"Swear the only one I want is you
And it doesn't matter what we do
We could have nothing at all
And it'd still feel like nothing's missing"
Song : Dancing in the Kitchen by LANY
Chifuyu was inside his room, going through his closet boredly. The former Toman members had organized a friendly gathering at Pah Chin’s place. He had newly moved into a new house with his wife. So, to celebrate it he invited all the members of their former gang to dinner. Chifuyu was deeply engulfed in thinking that he was startled when he heard something dropping downstairs. The blond frowned, waiting for a bit, straining to hear another sound. There it was, someone was inside the house. He stepped down the staircase cautiously and walked into the kitchen where the sounds were coming. There she was, his girlfriend shuffling around and opening the cabinets.
“Y/n?” Chifuyu asked, rounding the kitchen counter and hopping on one of the stools. He bemusedly watched as she looked at him up and down. A dissatisfied look on her face.
“You’re still getting ready?”
Chifuyu shrugged, dropping his chin to the cold tile on the counter. “Kind of.” He said, looking down at himself. He was wearing black pants and a light blue shirt rolled up to his elbows. “I only have to comb my hair. Or I’ll just-” He stopped patting his hair, trying to get his tousled locks in order. “All ready”
She shook her head, “You’re impossible”
“What are you doing?” He asked, changing the subject. He was too bored to go back and actually finished getting ready. And when Y/n was standing in front of him like this. Looking gorgeous in that flower printed light blue dress. Her hair tumbling down to her waist. Just a little blush and lipstick completed with a fine line of mascara. How can a man ever go back to whatever he was doing? “We’re matching” He grinned, before she could answer.
She looked at her dress and back at his shirt. “That soulmate sense tingled today” She pulled out a bowl. “I’m making some cookies because we have nothing to bring to their house”
“Wine?”
“I’m pretty sure others would have already gotten it”
“It would take time though” Chifuyu pointed out, “And you’ll get your dress dirty”
“Some genius invented aprons!” Y/n said in mock amusement pulling out two aprons from another drawer. “And we’ll get it done because my boyfriend is helping me”
Chifuyu gasped, looking around. “Where is he?”
She laughed, throwing the apron at him. Chifuyu caught it and put it on rounding the kitchen counter and stepping in. Just as she said, she had everything prepared. Chifuyu waited for a moment, watching as she moved around working on the cookie dough. “Aren’t you helping?” She asked jutting out her bottom lip. Chifuyu was barely holding in his laughter as Y/n made a face trying to blow off the bangs covering her vision.
“Give me a sec” The blond said. They weren’t living together just yet. But if you looked in the right places, you could find little things Y/n had left for emergencies. Chifuyu knew exactly where she often kept the hair bands. Just under the stool in front of the Television. The girl needed her bangs off when she was watching a movie. She can be an obsessive film addict. He grabbed a pink one and made his way towards the kitchen, turning on the radio all the while. “I’ve got you something” Chifuyu said, slipping behind her.
Y/n tried to look over her shoulder, wondering what the thing was when the male stopped her. He slipped his hand into her silky locks and pulled them up into a ponytail. He had learned how to deal with hair from Baji, a gentle reminder of his former mentor, friend left behind. A sudden feeling of nostalgia overwhelmed him. It had been years but the scars past leaves don’t just disappear. He nuzzled her face against her hair, sighing. “Are you okay?” She asked, leaning back so their bodies were pressed together. A silent comfort. She was good at that.
Chifuyu hummed, pushing away. He looked at the finished cookie dough on the counter. “Y/n, look, a spider” The blonde suddenly shrieked. Y/n’s life long fear, spiders. Curse him for getting advantage of that. The girl looked around feverishly, trying to spot the non existing spider when he scooped a handful of cookie dough. But alas, Y/n’s eyes were quick but Chifuyu’s hand was quicker.
“You little-” She started as the male jumped back with a laugh. “Don’t you dare eat that”
Chifuyu answered answered, swallowing it down. If he gets a stomachache it’s going to be worth it, he silently thought. “C’mon sweetheart, it’s just cookie dough”
“You’re getting it all over your face, idiot” She fumed, walking back to the counter when the blond made another dive to get some more. But she was quicker. “No you don’t” She said, not even trying to hide her amused smile. She swatted his hand away. “We’re going to be late”
Chifuyu shrugged, “Let’s tell them we’re running late”
Y/n didn’t answer, instead, she started quickly getting everything ready and set the batch of cookies to bake. “If we just put it in like 900 degrees we can do it pretty quickly”
“Well, your home sweet home would go boom” She said, making a hand gesture.
Chifuyu hummed, thinking for a second. “Worth it”
The two of them stared for a while. The low hum of the music filling in for the silence. Chifuyu took a step closer to her and Y/n didn’t make an attempt to move. It was almost as if she was frozen, lost inside his clear blue eyes. Chifuyu smiled, pulling off that hairband, letting her hair tumble along her shoulders in loose curls. The aprons were resting on the kitchen counter when he took her chin in his hand, tipping her face upwards. He brushed his lips against her soft ones, his hands slipping to her waist pulling her close. Y/n tilted her head with a smile. She knew what to do. It was as if the tug of chemistry between them. Her hands were around his neck as they moved around to the quiet music inside the house. “You’re beautiful” He said, still staring. Chifuyu could glimpse the Shibuya city lights from the long windows of the house, glistening like stars in the darkness. There was a world waiting for them outside but he just wanted to stay in here, his arms wrapped around her, the time frozen around them. Just him and her, moving ever so swiftly to the music.
Y/n grinned, stopping for a moment as she stood on her tiptoes, her lips on his cheek. “We’re going to be late, Chifu”
“Who cares?" He answered, twirling her around with a soft laugh. They slid across the floor. The blonde nuzzled against her neck, taking in the smell of her lavender perfume. His lips found their way into hers and the dancing came to a stop. They were standing in the middle of the kitchen, their lips pressed against each other, finding comfort in that simple kiss, simple gesture.
The cookies were the last thing in her mind as she kissed him, her eyes slipping close, her fingers curling on the collar of his shirt. God, she loved this boy. “I wish we could just ditch the party” Chifuyu whispered, pressing their foreheads together. “I want to spend the whole night with you right here”
She laughed, bumping their foreheads together. “They are our friends. Maybe next time, lover boy”
Chifuyu jutted out his bottom lip in disappointment but nodded. He ran a hand through her locks, tilting her head into another quick kiss. “I love you”
The smile she gave him in return was worth all the words and the letters in that single sentence. “I love you too”
"Now we're moving like we're on the moon
Dom Pérignon drip on our shoes
We could fly around the world
But we always end up
Dancing in the Kitchen"
I got bored in the doctor’s waiting room.
We never hear from those again in Mulan 2. Who knows, maybe they’d get along! They’re both taking a walk, see each other. And bam! Accidentally drop their brushes...
