You enter the fourth born’s bedroom silently, carefully stepping over books until you reach his bed. You climb into it and pull the blankets over your head. You had a bad day. All right, that’s putting it mildly. You woke up late this morning, failed an exam, lost your favorite pen, and cracked your phone screen.
You hear the door click open. And within seconds, Satan is slipping into bed behind you, one arm around your waist. You sigh when he kisses behind your ear. “Are you all right?”
You shake your head.
“Can I read to you?” He asks. When you nod, he shifts until he’s half-sitting up. You turn and lay your head on his chest and he plucks a random book from the ground. He enchants the book to hold itself up and wraps his arms around you. Then he clears his throat and starts to read.
You snuggle closer, listening closely to the story. And eventually, you start to drift off. Satan puts the book down and closes his eyes, content to nap with you.
