Writing... progress? Yes, sure, that's progress

Today I added about 600 words to chapter 26 in edits, and I'm calling it DONE.

Then I went to make myself a snack and a conversation in which Private Campbell tries to convince Private Westmoreland not to smuggle a chicken aboard while raiding an abandoned colony for supplies came to me, all at once, as if lo it doth descendeth from the heavens.

@tinierpurplefishes and I unpacked the ever-expanding details of Operation Sekrit Chikkinz for an hour before we even touched on her "Idiot private accidentally smuggled in an indoctrinated rooster and it's now loose on the Normandy" crack-horror AU.

I haven't talked about my flock in a while, but they're still here. I want to get headshots of all of them like this. (Frank is there because I think it's funny. We get at least one frog on a window every night.)

The Chicken is not Need-to-Know on this aspect of the operation!

Sometimes I wake up with sentences in my head. Sometimes I wake up with a song, or a fragmentary images of a dream, but my mind is very verbal, and sometimes they're just sentences, or sentence fragments. Maybe a sentence and a sense of it.

This morning, waking to the sound of one of my chickens complaining, it was "The chicken is NOT Need-to-Know on this!"

...along with a definite sense that:

A covert mission of deadly urgency was afoot

The chicken was an active participant

It was important for operational success and safety we not tell the chicken something.

I don't know what the chicken wasn't supposed to know. Possibly an identity? Whatever it was, it was strictly Need-To-Know information, and the chicken didn't need to know. It could carry out its vital role in the plan without it, and what it didn't know couldn't hurt us. What if the chicken talked?! We would all be done for. And that was a definite concern. It doesn't matter how trustworthy the chicken is, you can't be certain it'll keep quiet.

All of this was conveyed in that sentence, rattling around my groggy head with urgency.

I was down to three chooks and Ophelia was broody AGAIN, so I picked up three chicks at the farm store and arranged a virgin birth. Ophelia hatched three babies from two fake eggs! A miracle!

D&D group was just lead forward by a bunch of holy doves which perched upon us.

I offered to bring every player a small chicken to hold, for verisimilitude.

They didn't take me up on it, for some reason.
