botanical headcanons ; accepting heliotrope : does your muse believe in soulmates ?

Yes! She dabbles in tarot and the concept is very prevalent in that community. However, she doesn't agree with the notion that everyone only has one end-all-be-all soulmate, and that soulmates must inherently be romantic in nature. She believes that everyone has at least one soulmate, and most people have a few. She also believes that soulmates can be platonic--friendly, familial--or romantic. Jangmi thinks that soulmates are the people who will last with you into your old age, but that doesn't necessarily mean those people will remain in your life until then; it just means that the impression of them is one you will always carry. So for example, Suguru doesn't stay in Satoru's life until their old age, but they carry each other in their hearts and minds from the moment they meet, onwards. Jangmi believes soulmates are like that, except that the "carry them through life" sentiment doesn't have to be reciprocated. A person can be your soulmate without you being theirs.

Now the question becomes, does she believe she's met her own soulmate(s)? In some verses, yes! I would definitely say she feels that Nanami ( @ofovertime ) and Satoru ( @impishsensei ) are her soulmates in their respective verses. In a teen verse, Megumi ( @shiiikigami ) is her soulmate. I would really like some platonic soulmates for her, honestly, because these are all romantic soulmates thus far. x'D Honestly I feel like Haibara and Nobara would be that for her, but I've yet to find an RPer of either character where they have the right kind of chemistry for that.

Opal exited a building & locked up, she sighed as she felt dread knowing that upon her return, all the many outstanding tasks would still be there.

She turned to face the street & leaned back on the door. Her face gradually returned to its naturally smiley complexion.

"This can work, it has to"

She observed as people wandered home from their places of work, taking in the gentle spring breeze. A blossom tree was opposite the store, part of the empty unit's appeal. That and the reasonable rent for what appeared to be a safe neighbourhood with a gentle flow of foot traffic & a few nearby bus stops. It was a project for sure but Opal initially looked forward to the renovation.

In her hand was The Flip Flop from that chaotic convenience store debacle. Her lips relaxed into a smile as looked back at that time with great fondness. It was one of the moments that cemented her friendship with Chiyori. Unbeknownst to Chiyori, Opal kept the singular Flip. It was tucked away in a treasured memory box until recently.

With the Flip in one hand and a large hammer in the other, Opal turned to face the exterior of the building & reached up high holding a nail to the footwear.

She begin to hammer the yellow Flip in position above the doorway adjacent to a sign that read "Flip-Hop Cafe" with a simplified artwork logo of a pancake stack next to a steaming cup, presumably filled with delicious coffee.

The "Hop" was both a play on the American chain iHop and a nod to Chiyori's fondness for bunnies. Opal was unapologetically sentimental, an endearing quality that charmed anyone graced with her presence.

Opal's dream of owning her own cafe was well in motion. Unfortunately the repairs required for the kitchen were more extensive than anticipated, but she remained optimistic. A lot of the furniture she had thrifted from tired antique stores or found at the side of the road & took great care in sanding & restoring the wooden furniture back to life.

Having saved up for years & took on extra part time jobs to save up for the deposit. Opal felt exhausted, nervous but excited.

All those years of working a minimum wage job as a Barista. She took as an opportunity for training to be able to run her own cafe.

With a week until the grand opening, "Opal Choi, cafe owner" she muttered to herself. She began strolling home beaming, her face shining brightly in the evening sunshine.

"I heard a rumor," Suguru mocked in a whispered tone, exaggerating by cupping his hand over his mouth as if it were a secret that needed to be discreetly told, "that the Koyama family had to adopt a child." His expression softened into one of tender affection as his gaze shifted towards Mimiko's slumbering body. “It’s good. Koyama Chiyori is one of the lucky ones. The adoption rate in Japan is heinous…”

He refrained from acknowledging the contempt he harbored towards Chiyori for being raised by an ordinary family. “I may not be intimately acquainted with her, but I can hazard a guess as to which curse I would use…”

With a solemn gesture, he pressed a single finger against his lips, commanding silence. In the dim light, a chilling sight unfolded: a translucent dome emerged from the earth, encapsulating a writhing mass within—a stomach, suspended unnaturally, as if plucked from the depths. Intermittently, slender slits would rupture across the stomach's surface, disgorging a relentless deluge of calcified minnows. These spectral fish would writhe briefly in the air. Their hollow eyes fixed at the bowl's opening, before plummeting back against the glass with muted thumps. Attentive listeners might discern faint gasps, a hint of a final lullaby, struggling to find release.

“This story lacks a grand narrative, devoid even of a beginning to its tale. After all, what is the point of a child that doesn’t even grow? I guess… nothing but a harbinger for a mother's grief.”

It wasn't often Suguru was caught off guard. He liked revelling in the fact that he was, objectively, one of the strongest ; a diligent student, confident, fearless, always on his toes.

It was also true that he liked watching videos and playing games on his phone, blast music in his earphones, all those sorts of things that he allowed himself to do in the security of the school's barrier, that allowed him to put his walls down for a moment of relaxation and that's when it was easy to catch him by surprise.

Chiyori caught him in one of those moments ; he reading an article on his phone about his favourite band coming to Tokyo for a concert soon, and he was trying to research the cost of the tickets and the date they would be up for sale.

Despite not being necessarily scaredy, there's only so much one can do to keep their hearts from beating out their chests after a surprise.

When his kouhai creeps up behind him and scares him, Suguru feels his heart jump all the way up into his throat. His body jerks, lifting off the couch a couple of inches like a surprised cat, and his phone flies off his hand.

Irritation immediately washes over him, and he snaps around ready to strike who he thinks his offender is back, but at the sight of Chiyori's smug face, he sighs and redirects his hand to press it over his chest.

« Ha - ha, » he says flatly, irritation shifting into mild annoyance.

Shigeo could only feel too bad for her as they walked down the street towards their objective. He didn't look up from the map on his phone, although he heard her alright.

There really wasn't much he could do though, was there ? In their haste, his classmate had forgotten to grab a change of clothes and she had only realised it until after they had gotten off the car to walk the rest of the way.

« It's supposed to be a pretty low grade, maybe you won't even need to transform, » he said, still not looking at her and instead looking around to make sure they were going in the right direction.

« If it comes to it, you can borrow my jacket. »

"Hm, I don't think I've ever seen you in action," Nobara answers, looking up to the other across the table from her. "I can't really judge you fairly, but you're pretty and a woman so that automatically puts you above every man."

Exhaustion washes over Yuuta the moment Chiyori and Yuuta complete their joint mission. Though he is typically not one to show off, he might have gone a little overboard during the mission so his senior wouldn't have to.

By the time they reach the store, the rush of adrenaline has long since faded, and Yuuta feels a yawn coming as he stretches his arms over his head. He waves off Chiyori's invitation when his senior asks him to join her in the store, opting to sit on the curb outside and relax.

Yuuta only gets a second to truly sit back and catch his breath until a scrawny old man approaches the second-year student, insisting he try some food he's made at his nearby stall. He claims it'll cure Yuuta of his fatigue, though Yuuta is sure his fatigue is due to years of disrupted sleep from insomnia.

Under normal circumstances, Yuuta might have accepted the offer. Yet, following his mission, he's lost his appetite after seeing blood and guts. He can't exactly say he's used to that yet, even if he's been in countless fights.

He's too drained to push the other away; however, this neutral approach proves him wrong as he realizes the vendor just isn't letting up. Returning to his feet, he steps closer to the store, though the man isn't letting Yuuta go. Well, until both parties are interrupted by a sudden shout.

Yuuta startles upon hearing his senior's voice-- he doesn't have time to truly think about what was said until she is pulling him away. Both relieved and a bit embarrassed, the teen smiles sheepishly.

"That was pretty loud," he notes, adjusting his bag with his free hand, the other extended in front of him as the woman dragged him. He wordlessly allows her to guide him until the quietness feels too awkward, even for Yuuta.

After a couple more steps, Yuuta clears his throat, trying to catch her attention. He then tugs his wrist back, freeing himself from her grip.

"I could have handled it," he adds without much thought, trying to fill the silence. "You don't have to worry about me, you know? I was waiting for you to be done." It's not exactly the truth, but it's better than nothing.

« Yes, senpai ! » Yuuji said, saluting before turning leisurely on his heels and hading out alongside Chiyori.

He looked at her curiously as they walked, thinking about the fact that this was actually the first time they went together on a mission ; he was both curious and excited.

He knew she absorbed curses, and the more he thought about it, the more he thought maybe... They could relate to each other.

He, too, had a curse inside of him, after all, although he wondered if it was the same at all.

« Koyama-senpai... » He called, to catch her attention,

« Do the curses you absorb have a consciousness of their own ? » Could she hear them ? Did they taunt her the way his did to him ? He hadn't stopped to think about it.
