Chilè - Au Petit Déjeuner
A London-based duo between Polish vocalist Joulie Fox and producer Damien Ricaud, Chilè pays homage to the “City of Lights” in their latest single “Au Petit Déjeuner”. A quirky single, the track is upbeat and lively, with its dusky undercurrent written by the subtle groove of its muted bass. Complimenting the percussion of its reverberating bass wobble, the club energy of the track is highlighted by the characteristically, staccato sound of Joulie’s Slavic undertones. Speaking their latest single which pays homage to the hedonism seen in Parisian nightlife, Chilè had this to say:
“‘Au Petit Déjeuner’ captures the mood of Paris by night depicting the all too familiar story for every Parisian of having a night out in this one of a kind city. The song was written in a cozy pub in North London and the chorus came up first based on the phrase ‘Qu'est-ce que tu as mangé au petit-déjeuner?’, literally meaning, ‘What did you have for breakfast?’, implying that the night out had been so rough and crazy that it went on until breakfast time. The verses then go into the details of what happened from dusk till dawn, with special references to the 2nd district of Paris where David Lynch's Silencio club is located and Le Globo club in the 10th district, as well as to 19th-century author Guy de Maupassant for his fascinating pictures of French life.”
