Research
So When I watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower and towards the end of the movie Charlie the main character said something that left me with a ton of questions he said "what Aunt Helen had done to me". So I just assumed that it was the trauma and everything but why would his parents react the way they did? It's been a while since I've seen the movie maybe 2 months or so but I decided to do some research and you don't find out till the end the clues he gave about being molested by his aunt Helen. He was so traumatized by his aunt's death because he had wished it. So the molesting would stop. It all makes sense now, why would charlie be so traumatized if he didn't actually see her die, i mean one could argue that it was because she was getting his present and such.
Growing up, Aunt Helen was molested by a friend of the family. When she finally told her parents, they didn't believe her. They did nothing to stop it, and even continued inviting the man into their home. Eventually, Aunt Helen grew up and got away. But of course, the trauma stayed with her: "My aunt Helen drank a lot. My aunt Helen took drugs a lot. My aunt Helen had many problems with men and boys. […] She went to hospitals all the time" (2.13.9).
Victims of abuse often become abusers themselves. And of course, Aunt Helen goes on to molest Charlie. She took advantage of shy, quiet Charlie's love and trust. Charlie forgives her, but it has changed the course of his life forever.
Crazy right. I didn't only find this one explanation I found a couple which leads me to believe that my prediction was right if no oh my gee that's sad. Correct me if I'm wrong though
