SPOILERS FOR TGAMM Yes I know The ghost and Molly McGee isn’t the most popular out of the recent Disney shows (compared to toh, amp, svtfoe, or even gf) BUT I love talking about it.
When people talk about the character development most ppl talk about Scratch (yes I love his development and I cried over it) but I find Mollys development interesting as well. instead of getting better she just slowly lost her mind. Don’t know if it’s a bad thing I relate to her so much.
Like in Ready, Set, Snow! Is a key example most of the episode was her losing her mind. She literally made a snow therapist and then laughed in its face. It’s it’s her fault and her stubbornness. She’s even like that in First Day Frights for a little bit she was panicking about her first impression needing to be perfect. And in The Don’t-Gooder she’s so determined to be seen as the best ‘do-gooder’ she’ll go to any length just to prove Andrea doesn’t deserve a award. Even Scratch said she’s being crazy. She breaks into her garage and shows basically the whole town that she’s a fraud. Yes she fixes it in the end but still.
Molly is a very determined perfectionist. Staying up all night plotting things not even for herself. Like in All Night Plight she try’s to keep Scratch and Libby up all night to see a cosmic event and is very controlling about it determined to not let anything get in the way. She literally tries blowing away the clouds. Scratch asks her why she’s so obsessed with trying to see the comet. She breaks down and admits she wants one good memory the three of them can look back on. And in Out of house and home/Home is Where the Haunt is she ends up under a lot of stress with her dad with a broken and then losing her house. She ends up working so hard to make money and they end up being evicted and then she picks up a bunch of clubs and try’s to pretend everything is ‘totally normal’ (best displayed in the song for that episode) and Libby sees that something is clearly wrong with Molly. While Molly persists that she’s totally normal while actively breaking down and crying over a diorama. Libby finally try’s talking to her and Molly refuses to tell her. Andrea finds out they are living in the woods and helps them get there house back.
Im not going to try unpack the emotional roller coaster of the season finale. But I did add YouTube links (none of those are mine) to 2 songs from the show that show Molly losing her mind.
If you’ve never watched the show and are a fan of amp or svtfoe I highly recommend you checking it out, yes it’s more ‘childish’ and ‘Disney-est’ compared to toh or gf but it’s still really great. And hopefully it gets a season 2 (but Disney has a tread of killing off the best shows for ‘not fitting the Disney brand’) Thanks for reading my rant about a kids show :)
