Post-event crazies...
Me: *walks through the door of my friends house*
Boy: "How are you?"
Me: "I'm so tired I might die."
Boy: "Aww."
Me: "Like, I'm exhausted but also high on caffeine. It's a weird feeling."
Boy: "Okay, well.."
Me: "There were children; and then there was God; and then there was camping; and so much coffee."
Boy: "Okay, you can tell me about it later."
Me: "And they put me in charge of..."
Boy: "...Okay, why don't you lie on the sofa for a bit."
Me: "But I'm not tired!"
Boy: *carefully trips me and then catches me and lies me down*
Me: "I'm against this!"
Boy: *covers me with a blanket*
Me: "Okay, just for a minute..."

A few weeks ago I blogged about knowing your workplace jargon. At the time It was all about super output areas, today it's about heuristic play. This is obviously something I've observed before as a parent when collecting my children from nursery, I didn't know it had a name. My contact with younger people is usually limited to 7-17 year olds as I'm a youth worker not a nursery nurse but the building I work from is now branching out and utilising our empty space during the day to provide sessions for 0-5's too so in my quest to find a USP for these sessions I've discovered heuristic play, I'm now fascinated by this. Now just a way to sell it to parents as discovery play rather than us just looking like cheapos.
I'm leading my first kids group tomorrow.
I'm so scared it's unreal.
I've been preparing all afternoon.
There's the game type thing where there's a list of tasks and if they complete them then they get a sweet. One of them is, "say the 7x table". I'm so embarrassed to admit that I actually had to look it up and write down the answers because I don't know my 7x table. Ha.
Ohmygosh I'm so nervous about this, it's ridiculous. I don't think anyone's ever been so scared of a group of 7-11 year olds.
