Special Moments
I saw a billboard yesterday that read "Live in the moment". That's tough sometimes. Quite often I'm mulling over something from the past or worrying about something in the future. What I have learned over time is life is full of moments and you never know when one will be remembered as special. I took the kids to spend a week with my parents and relatives. It was special to see how much they enjoyed everyone. How often do you do something that involves your children visiting relatives and they say how they can't wait to see all the cousins and aunts and uncles again? Special moments they were. I laughed when my daughter said how she'd never seen someone use old socks as oven mitts before.(My relatives know how to improvise.) My son got a kick out of when this one individual mentioned "Narcolepsy" in a conversation. I mentioned to them how I think that's when you snitch on an epileptic doing drugs, and they replied they didn't know that. The one thing I told my children before they met all my extended family is that I come from a group that is not afraid to speak their mind. You always know where you stand with them. I explained to my daughter how I not only come from people who believe children should be seen and not heard, or heard but not seen. But if you're a kid and get way out of hand, I have a couple of aunts that would stick that kid in the trunk of a car. Hey if you'll only accept the world of 3-Martini Lunches and Country Club Memberships you won't be hanging with my family. But if you're fine with someone using and old cottage cheese container as a gift box, come on over.
