Hello, I feel like this has been asked before but I can't find it. What year/grade are the characters currently in (incl. Augustus, Rachel & co. etc) and how many years do they have left in.. highschool I assume they're in? I'm foreign so the school system in the story is a tad confusing, I wanna make sure I understand the new chapter since it seems school/college?-related. ;; Thank you!
Oliver: Yeah, it is confusing! I feel it too as an Australian who never grew up with these terms. Here’s a concise explanation I found:
The following terms are used to describe students in grades 9-12; confusingly, they are also used for college undergraduates.
Freshman: Grade 9, or first year of college (American usage of the word “college”)
Sophomore: Grade 10, second year of college
Junior: Grade 11, third year of college
Senior: Grade 12, fourth year of college.
The other confusing part is that Americans consider grades 9–12 to be “high school” (in most states? certainly Roseville’s state) and middle school 6–8.
BCB starts with the main crew in eighth grade, at middle school then soon has an “Enter High School” chapter that chronicles their entrance into freshman year, of high school (9th grade).
As of Unwanted Gift, it’s November 2008 in the comic, and the main crew is in Junior year (11th grade). Jasmine/Mina/Cassidy/Haley are Sophomores (10th grade). Augustus, being two grades ahead, was supposed to graduate out of Senior year (12th grade), but didn’t, as we saw in Love Again. Tess, however, did.
Rachel and Jessica and Madison are one year older than the main cast, all Seniors (12th grade), soon to graduate. Augustus was in the same year as Tess, but is now in the same year as Rachel/Jessica/Madison/Matt/Jordan.
