hi just so you know. trollhunters was extremely formative for me (seems like it was for you too). i discovered adjustments back in 2022 i think? and it genuinely changed my writing style and i go back and reread it probably twice a year cause i love it so much and it makes me feel so close to the old fandom and how i felt watching the show for the first time. so i guess i wanna say thank you for it, thank you sm ❤️❤️
You are very fuckin sweet. Ty.
It's been a hot millennia since I wrote for that fic. I still think about it fairly often... I'm really glad it means that much to you, since I spent days at a time tending to the plot and characters. I'm proud of it even now.
Someday I'd like to finish it, and also publish a few other TH fics that never saw the light of day.
I owe a friend of mine a Christmas gift this year, specifically a TH fic, so ig keep an eye for it?
big shout-out to 3Below s2 for not only giving basically every single relevant character from Trollhunters a cameo except Claire Nunez, but also not even mentioning her until the very last episode
realization that someone probably already had but just occurred to me at 4am
since the king and queen haven’t changed at all since their contact with trollmarket- which was at least two hundred or more years ago, maybe more since the timeline with TM is so messy- it’s safe to say akiridions... age super slow? maybe not at all? not in terms we would understand at a glance anyway. (we’ve yet to see an aged akiridion- just children, teens, and adults. plus, i vaguely recall, vervatos didn’t know what a senior citizen was, and didn’t really understand why an elderly person’s body gets weaker?? del toro pls explain why, do akiridions just not do that? do they die while young?? where do their young even come from??? del toro pls explain)
circling back to the original point of this post: it’s safe to assume akiridions are a long-lived species. who else is just as long-lived?
trolls, dude. the trolls.
jim might be only half-troll, but it’s a reasonable assumption he’ll live closer to the length of a full-troll’s lifespan versus a human’s, which is barely a hundred years (i highly doubt merlin would go through so much trouble to make the perfect warrior and then just let him die of old age). basically speaking, somewhere down the road here, unless some weird shit goes down in toa wizards, jim is eventually going to be a few hundred years old and the only one of his human friends and family left.... but with any luck, he’ll have some extraterrestrial companions to share that grief with.
((oofgh this is sad but weirdly cute i’m so conflicted ugh))
I see people with troll versions of Claire and I always think, yeah, that's good art right there, but why is she so skinny and small? Could we get some beef on this girl?? Trolls- even sleeker ones like Nomura- have decent muscle!! They're built to be apex predators or powerful omnivores!! What I'm getting at here is that people shouldn't be afraid to give Claire a little more bulk in troll form, because Jim doubled in size with his and it stands to reason that Claire would do the exact same.
Back on my bullshit, with an Adjustments update on the horizon. Have a preview of the drama:
Jim makes a foolhardy decision and grabs the fleeing troll by the horn, throwing him to the side just before the worm slams its pincers into the ground. Jim leaps as it does and lands on the thing’s head, stabbing downwards with all his strength.
The thick plates of shell don’t give way like he hoped they would- the thick chiton stops Daylight’s blade not three inches down and barely bleeds. Jim snarls in frustration, yanking it out to try again, but feels his world suddenly lurch and he ends up grappling for purchase as he slips down the worm’s body. His metal clad fingers find a notch in the carapace, leaving Jim hanging from the worm’s head as it rises up, angrily writhing. Below, Jim sees Nomura and the other troll fighters.
Nomura looks shocked and pissed off. Jim doesn’t have to guess it’s about the admittedly stupid fighting tactic he’s chosen.
“Come- on,” Jim hisses to himself. He lets his sword vanish and uses the freed hand to begin climbing up the swaying worm’s neck; cavern wind blusters his hair and face as it does. “Can’t get- a damn break- around here-!”
The giant creature he’s clinging too shudders, letting out an ear-piercing shriek; how it can bellow at such a high pitch, Jim doesn’t know, and he resents the stupid thing even more for it. He manages to get most of the way back up the worm’s head, but not before another obstacle presents itself.
“Oh for- really?” Jim exclaims, pulling his hand away from the worm’s chiton and making a face. Viscous substance trails from his arm, a secretion of thick fluid coming from between the wide plates. It smells horrible and Jim knows he’s going to have to bathe for hours after this.
Electing to ignore the disgusting defense, Jim grumbles and keeps climbing, racing the clock until the worm decides to attack someone again. The molasses like fluid continues to make his life miserable, increasing the difficulty of climbing as well as steadily slicking up his entire body. Jim grinds his teeth and stubbornly continues on.
But, as he feared would happen, the worm dives down once again and takes Jim with it. He can’t help but shout in surprise and fear; losing his grip on the chiton and going flying, along with large droplets of the semi-opaque fluid.
i know i’ve been p quiet on this blog for a long while, but rest assured i am still here and still very emotionally invested in this ridiculous cartoon series.
anyway, i posted this link on discord and thought i’d share it with my followers too. if anyone wants to see how i’m de-stressing from my insane lifestyle rn, have a read of a tiny drabble i did about a magical girl jim crack au (set in canon) + explanation content afterwards.
