PhilStar's Website Attacked

After targeting government websites, the alleged Chinese group of hackers is now even attacking private companies as well. 

The online doman of Philippine Star, one of the leading news organizations in the Philippines, was also attacked by China. Similar to the previous incidents, a message writtend in Chinese  characters was also left up on the website of PhilStar. However, Philippine Star acted instanly, and managed to regain the site and to put it back to normal state within the span of 10 minutes.

It is said that there have been attempts on hacking Several Philippine websites after the Philippine Star incident. Furthermore, usernames and passwords of site administrators have been found posted on several forums. 

A number of websites have already been hacked. Organizations, by now, should observe online security measures in order to protect their domains. Don't wait until hackers gain access to your site. Adding to this, a statement requesting the public to stop blaming certain people for the incidents for there are still no concrete findings as to whom is responsible, was released by the reigning administration. The government also called out to the hackers to stop such actions for it is not doing any good to anyone.

After the hacking incident of the Department of Budget Management (as displayed by the video above), another government domain of the Philippines was reported to have been attacked as well. The website of the official weather bureau, PAGASA, has been taken down and replaced with scribbles of text.

As an immediate response to the incident, PAGASA posted on Twitter that their site is being fixed in order to let the public know about the incident.

It is really alarming that several official websites have been continuously intruded. This just shows that cyber security of government domains are really lacking and ineffective in protecting portals as well as the information they may possess.

Cyberwar?

One recent hacking incident reported last April caught the whole nation off guard. It was made known that multiple official government web domains have been illegally accessed. Having been involved with a sort of confrontation with the Chinese people due to the  issue on the ownership of the Scarborough Shoal, hackers are suspected to be citizens of China. Furthermore, notes in traditional Chinese language as well as images were left on the websites. One example of the hacked websites would be that of the DBM wherein the flag of China was displayed and a message warning the Filipinos not to challenge the Chinese people. The previous domain of the Department of Budget Management was temporarily used while the official site was still down.

"Cyberwar" may not inflict physical harm to citizens however it might result to an actual confrontation which may cost the lives of many. The question now is, what will be the move of the government in order to respond to this?
