Artifact Road Trip - West Virginia
This bread and butter plate and creamer are part of a partial set of matching Rho Dendra china manufactured in 1939 by the Carr China Company in Grafton, West Virginia, especially as a gift for Eleanor Roosevelt. Mrs. Roosevelt proceeded to give the set to Earl Miller who served as her bodyguard during the years when FDR was Governor of New York and became a close friend. Miriam S. Abelow, who donated the set to the FDR Library, received the china from Earl Miller who was a friend and correspondent of Mrs. Abelow and her husband.
