Hong Kong is many things,
Efficient, Convenient, Loud and Bright, Grungy and Concrete, And covered in Vinyl Banners.
I go to the store, my local Wellcome, And new vinyl banners are up, Tied on with zip-ties, Saying different things:
Some from the government, "Don't Litter", "Recycle",
One's about Mosquitos.
Many are from politicians Two faces, two names, some vague party slogan. Never quite clear for what election.
I sit in the bus and look out the window, A vinyl banner outside the Rural Committee. "Oust Corruption, Support the Will of the People." The light turns green, and the bus moves on. Next week a new banner, green instead of pink, "Support the Will of the People, Help Oust Corruption."
A man and a woman come to the school. And teach us to use the banners, How to make stationary boxes out of the vinyl. "To help save the environment" All the banners are monochrome. Clearly printed for this workshop.
I walk home to the bus station on the way home from school. Another electoral banner, but this one's cut up. Some politicians face stabbed, with a knife or scissors. I look at the banner, wondering what it said that made them so angry, I see no answers.
I look at the vinyl box, Taken home from that workshop It's bad and saggy, and always falls over. I keep it out of spite.
Covered in Vinyl Banners. Grungy and Concrete, Loud and Bright, Efficient and Convenient.
Hong Kong is many things.
