I figured since I haven't seen posts on tumblr talking about this, I would post it here. Hank Green talked about the Chinese rocket earlier on tiktok, preceded to delete the tiktok, but it was still posted on his insta so I screen-recorded it. Please watch the entire video.

I'm so sorry if this take isn't as nuanced or articulated well, but as someone who is half-Korean with a mother who has been harassed out in public due to COVID-19, I felt the need to bring attention to this. This is harmful to the Asian community and I'm not just talking about East Asians either. Yeah, Hank Green is pointing out how China shouldn't be launching rockets and criticizing the Chinese government, but there are racists out there in the world who will use this as leverage to attack people of Asian descent.

One time while my mom was at Walmart this white woman would not move away from her and my mom told her to step away because of COVID regulations. When my mom left Walmart, that woman tried to follow my mom home and my mother and her almost got into a physical altercation. She also threatened to call deportation on her. My mother can handle herself and thankfully she is safe, but that could've ended so badly.

Also, I'm genuinely disappointed in Hank Green, but more than anything I'm pissed off. Things are already bad with the Chinese rocket news, but when someone with the platform Hank Green has, uses it for something like this? It's putting Asians in even more dangerous situations. Not only is it dangerous, but it's irresponsible.
