#FoodieFriday #DumplingCrawl Part 2 with @eatingthroughto 🙌🏻 . New to #Toronto’s dumpling scene is @juicydumpling.ca, making a name for themselves with $2.99 #soupdumplings + $3.99 pan fried soup #dumplings (which is what we tried). Pan fried is not a traditional way to prepare soup dumplings so it’s nice to see the world of dumplings are still evolving after almost 1,800 years. 😬 . Next up was a traditional #hargao, #hagao, #hargaw? at RolSan. So many different spellings but one classic #dimsum delight, this #shrimp filled steamed dumpling is probably the most popular dim sum dumpling. The wrapper is just thin enough to see the pink hue of the shrimp inside. . Our next stop is a modern #ChineseCafe/#TeaHouse similar to what you’d find the youth of Asia snacking and hanging out in today. @staycafeteria serves many Chinese comfort dishes + drinks + is our only #bubbletea of the tour, a classic black #tealatte with #tapioca, served warm with foamy milk like a coffee latte. Their dumplings are made in-house with the traditional thick, al dente wrapper of good hand rolled wrappers, + the dumplings come in a soy, vinegar, fresh cilantro, + chili oil sauce. Again something that tea houses would do to separate themselves from fast casual street vendors in Asia that usually offered the basic condiments self-serve. Plus we got to try #tangyuan, a sweet rice dumpling usually filled with black sesame, peanut, or red bean + served in a warm light syrup/soup. @staycafeteria adds fragrant fermented rice, #sweetosmanthus, + #gojiberries to black sesame tang yuan, reminiscent of how their family would prepare it in China. . We originally had planned two other bubble tea stops but with input from our guests we decided to add two bonus #dumpling stops, @laiwahheen at the start + @dailoto to finish. 😋 . Dailo’s Hakka Brown #Wontons are @ninjachef grandmother’s signature recipe. The pork + shrimp wontons are served with toasted sesame oil, house #xosauce + almond crumble. A beautiful finish to a delicious day of many different style of dumplings + dumpling establishments. .
