❝  well, you know, jackass seems a little more apt than horse, but, i guess we don't need to be particular. ❞ if not particular, they should at least be careful. words are everything in the living they've made for themselves, but with chip she's never been quite as careful to mince them - not for her own benefit, and certainly not for his. more than seven months of silence has made this an odd transition, though. there's plenty they haven't said to each other, and so long as alex is servicing her pride, they'll remain unsaid. ( which, given her dedication to her pride, could prove to be an exceptionally long time. ) showing up on his doorstep had already been a blip, and at the moment she's not inclined to reinforce the anomaly with anything resembling an apology.

falling back into the ebb and flow is easy enough, though. knowing each other for as long as they have means more than just him knowing her well enough to script copy that could have come from her own hand and sounds at home in her own mouth, it also means she knows how to play off an easy tee - up. he wants her to succeed. she wants to not feel like she's ruined him. for both to happen, they have to grasp at some normalcy, and pray that at some point, it feels real. ❝ this is a shitshow. the eight o clock hour is going to have their work cut out. ❞
