I'm already feeling very happily spoiled from all the snippets you've already blessed us with, but... yeah, no, can't resist, could I request something regarding the one where everybody is apparently super sonic racing?
I'm so happy you've been enjoying them!! I might have to cut off new asks soon though because I'm afraid I'll run out of scenes I can actually share xD
But I have plenty from super sonic racing! That chapter is literally several paragraphs away from being finished (except I keep deciding to add stuff or second guess everything I've already written :P beh), so there's a lot to pull from here.
Might share a bit with Shadow since he's what I'm so concerned about here...
“I deserve this chance to try and Sonic trusts me—” “To his detriment.” Tails’s eyes flashed at the interruption, his snout quivering with the stirrings of a snarl. “Sonic trusts me,” he repeated slowly. “You really think he’d let me race if he didn’t think I could handle it?” “I think he has a problem saying no to you,” Shadow hummed. “Yeah, well, you don’t know us.” Tails rolled his eyes. “You just see Sonic the way you want to see him. Annoying and always causing trouble.” “He is annoying and always causing trouble,” Shadow argued. “Oh, like you’re not annoying and always dragging everyone down into a depressing funk with you,” Tails snapped back. Shadow arched a brow, unfazed by his declaration. “Feel better?” “I’ll feel better when I don’t have to look at your stupid face anymore.” “I’ll leave once you’ve agreed to drop out of the race.” “Then have fun sleeping in the garage all night,” Tails quipped, “because I already told you that’s not happening. Not for anything.” “Not even for Sonic?” Tails’s fur bristled, though some of the fight leeched out of him as Shadow deftly poked a hole in his stubborn pride. “What? Are you threatening him or something?” “Tch. No. Though after the constant badgering and taunting he’s put me through over this race for the past month, I'd say he’d deserve it,” Shadow snorted, then fixed Tails with a determined look, like he’d accept nothing less than what he wanted. “I’m here to race Sonic at his best. Anything less is a waste of my time. And you and I both know he won’t be so long as you’re participating.” Tails’s jaw tightened. “We talked about it. He said he would race his best no matter what.” “And you believe him?” “Yes.” Though he couldn’t look Shadow in the eyes as he said it. “He promised.” “That won’t matter. Even if he tries to keep his word to you, as long as you’re on the track, he will be distracted. And regardless of what the two of you discussed, whatever agreement you’ve come to, you know this. You know it’s impossible for him to race and not consider your well-being. It will affect his racing.” “So then you’ll get to win,” Tails huffed, rolling his eyes. “What does it matter to you?” “Because there’s no point in besting him if he doesn’t even try.” Shadow clenched his fist between them, eyes flashing with the thrill of a satisfying challenge. “I want to put him in his place. Give him the race he's been demanding and then some. That’s the only satisfying outcome and only if he’s tried his best.” Tails leveled a half-lidded, unimpressed look at him. “You know, you’re starting to sound like Jet.” Shadow didn’t take the bait. “So bow out now.” “No.”
Shadow is just as competitive as Sonic, he just doesn't goad people into with smack talk (more like he just... smacks). But it's believable that Shadow totally wants to crush Sonic in the dust, right? 😅
I mean, he might also be acting out of a place of concern, but he's Shadow. It's not like he can let anyone know that.
