Chiss naming conventions
For those curious about canon correct Chiss names here’s a little helpful guide of how they work
Most chiss names are made up of three parts usually separated by an apostrophe
Each part has a meaning
The first part identifies a persons family
the second the core name (or normal name)
The third is a little less clear but represents a social factor or status
Let’s take my trooper as an example her full name is Ash’shen’tor
The First parts Ash is her family name
The second Shen is her actual core name
The Third Tor refers to a very specific soldier status (i made this part of for flavour)
Most Chiss don’t go by their full name for brevity and efficiency though and take a name based around their core name
For example Thrawn takes his name from his core name raw and the three letters either side of the parts

Eli has been referred to as Ivan (maybe Ivant if i misheard) by chiss coming from the splitting Eli Vanto into Eli’van’to
But chiss don’t always follow this rule for their common names in Ash’s case she uses her family name (much like some people do in real life) but this is due to a lack of experience with her culture so the people around her just shortened the first part.
But her name is actually Shen
My other chiss Bolen’s name comes from the full family and core names of his full name Bo’len’trist
There’s a few exceptions however some Chiss have a two part name and lack a core name entirely. It seems to be a question of status but there are also many outliers to this rule
I don’t know if anyone will care about this but I thought it would be interesting to note the lore appropriate naming for lore enthusiasts like me hope this helps
