C Ramchandra _ his zest for music, literature
“Shola Jo Bhadke” Lata Mangeshkar & Chitalkar (Albela, 1951)
"Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon" Shamshad Begum & Chitalkar (Patanga, 1949)
Hum Burma ki galiyon mein aur tum ho Dehradun, tumari yaad saatati hai, tumhari yaad saatati hai.
I associate this song with a lot of great, scarily nostalgic things, one of them being this really old teashop in a decaying part of the Dehradun district in Uttarakhand, India where I usually go home to whenever I visit. It's also my mom's favorite song, one she heard some 20 years too late in the courtyard of the zamindar whose fields she worked in as kid. It's funny what you remember being your first introduction to history, recorded history in this case, and how it can stick by you years and years after even if it's so removed from your own time.
"Kari Kari Kari Andhiyari Thi Raat" Asha Bhosle & Chitalkar (Navrang, 1959)
The night was dark when the beloved in all her finery wended her way to her lover.
