You know analogue horror as a whole is VERY hit or miss. Setting aside the fact that horror is subjective and the majority of these stories are made for free by your average joe (which is awesome don't get me wrong) a lot of the tropes are same-y and rely on tried and true scares and visual distortions.

BUT an interesting thru-line I see out of a lot of them is the glib nature behind the exposition. The majority of the time the lore and information of the story is given to us via an edu-tainment style where The Horrors are often casually dismissed by the-powers-that-be.

This brings levity, but also gives the idea that people will rationalize away strangeness if they aren't in tune with their instincts. We get frustrated with horror protagonists that do stupid things like stay to explore the haunted house or walk up to the obviously haunted statue, but the characters don't know they are in a horror story and also their own brains are also probably telling them "it's just an old house with creaky foundations and a rodent problem making all those noises. That's a statue with a very distinct style, let's take a closer look to appreciate the artistry."

I just think it's interesting how horror as a whole relies on the characters having absolute GARBAGE fight or flight mechanisms. 'Course if they did we probably wouldn't have a story, huh?

#ChiwwyTalks #I like horror as a genre because I like to see the psychology at play #both in how the characters behave but also how the medium and story is interacting with the audience #Like in Jurassic Park the horror comes only partly from being hunted by dinos #the big part of the horror is how HUMANS are the cause of it #(at least in the first movie)#HUMANS made the dinos #HUMANS made the park #A HUMAN is responsible for the park failing and therein unleashing the dinos #we humans are the source of our own doom #(and so is the capitalistic notion that drove the creation of the dinos and the park in the first place)

The lovely thing about having a huge pile of WIPS is that when you're artblocked you can rummage around in there and pull out something you've already put the foundation on but didn't have the energy/time to finish it then.
