lady of the lake.

even in the middle of the afternoon, the deepest parts of the lake are still murky and mostly dark. lana swims through it anyway, enjoying the rare moments of silence, away from the noise and bustle of camp. she loves camp haven, and always has, but she also likes taking time to just be in the water on her own.
she’s been swimming in this lake for five summers, and she knows it better than the back of her hands. she knows everything that lives in this lake, and knows that while the rumors of sharks in the lake are true, they’re just jace’s mechanical sharks, and won’t hurt anyone -- though they do give new campers quite the scare. lana can admit that she’s been part of the semi-tradition of encouraging the shark rumor, if only for some good-natured hazing. normally, though, nothing in the lake can scare her.
however, right now she’s focused on digging out a pretty-looking rock from the lakebed, so when something slimy and big brushes against the back of her leg, she cries out in shock, jerking away and accidentally hitting her head on another nearby rock, hard enough to daze her and have her vision blurring even more. she rolls over to find what touched her, but only sees the water turning even darker and somehow more red in front of her eyes. losing her focus, the bubble around her mouth and nose disappears, along with her only source of air at the bottom of the lake. within seconds, her vision begins to fade.
