I really enjoyed writing Erik's posture change when he leaves the stables! I think that might be my favorite small detail from it. I have a lot more in my notes about this fic that didn't make it onto the page (because I might be turning this into a fully fleshed out fic eventually 👀), but the gist is that Madeleine is very much using Erik as her puppet, and this is the only real indication in the one shot that Erik isn't so okay with her involvement in his life.

I Looked Around in a Blood-Soaked Gown

Pre-canon/canon-era. Erik is reading when the tell-tale whirring of his torture chamber kicking into gear alerts him to the presence of a home invader. He thinks nothing of it at first and simply continues reading, allowing person to their fate. Though when he checks later, to his great dismay, he finds one of the ballerinas dead in the chamber of mirrors. He is tormented that a young woman was killed in this contraption of his own design, leading him to ponder on each and every life he's taken in the past. How could he have let himself become this monster?

Gosh, there are so many little details from this fic that I loved. I think my favorite, though, is how we showed Erik to be the opposite of Philippe in every way. Philippe crossed physical boundaries, Erik always asked for consent. Philippe would be on his phone while spending time with Christine, Erik dropped everything to give her undivided attention. Philippe told Christine he loved her, Erik showed her he loved her. All those little things were so much fun to include, and the whole time we were writing, I was hoping that people would pick up on that stuff.

This might be a little on the nose and probably not what you're looking for, but "He's a Pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean. The Curse of the Black Pearl was a big inspiration for me when I was coming up with the concept for that one shot. When I think of that fic, I hear that song. "Wellerman Sea Shanty" is another one that I feel needs no explanation. I wish I had more romantic options for this question, but I'm sure those will come when I get around to turning that into a multi chapter fic 👀

I gazed at the rose in my hands as I stood in the shadows, completely obscured from their view. Through my thick, leather gloves, I couldn't feel the softness of the petals, couldn't feel the stab of the thorns. So numb was I to the world around me that all I could do was lift my gaze and stare in mild horror and utter betrayal at my Christine. No, I sadly realized as I watched her profess her love to him, watched her throw her arms around him, saw her kiss him senseless. She's not, and will never be, my Christine.

Five sentence fic ask: POTO + twilight

Hi Aster!! Thanks so much for the ask! The rest of these are going to get answered hopefully between today and tomorrow.

As he laid the boy down to rest in Nadir's arms, Erik kept his eyes glued to the child's face. It was difficult for him to believe that this pale, sickly child was the Reza he'd once known, so bright and full of life. And now, never again would Erik have the chance to play with the boy in the yard, to perform melodies on the violin for him, to produce magic tricks and smile at the sound of the child's laughter.

Erik tore his eyes away as the boy took his last breath, taking a piece of his heart with him, and shifted his gaze to look out the window at the starry sky. The sun had set, twilight was here, and so began the darkest chapter of Erik's tragic life.

Erik rolled his eyes as he breathed heavily through his teeth. “Why won’t you leave?” he snapped. “And don’t tell me that it’s because you want your stupid knife, because I’m not giving it to you.”

“And there are a lot of things I don’t need but have to live with,” Charlotte said with a small smirk as she bandaged his wound.

Kiss

“I’m well aware of that fact,” Christine said with a laugh. “I’m rather fond of your kisses too. However, we do happen to be out in public, so I’m thinking that this conversation should probably stop there.”

Whispered

Twenty minutes later, she found herself back in front of her building, muttering a goodbye to Philippe as she collected her belongings and practically sprinted inside. She took the stairs instead of the elevator, not wanting to wait, and rushed to the third floor, where she made a beeline for Erik’s apartment door and gently knocked. “Please answer. Please answer, Erik,” she whispered.

Blood

“Okay, let’s get one thing straight here. You attacked me. I was just defending myself,” Charlotte replied, dabbing away a bit of blood before she completed a few more stitches.

Who Needs to Dream?

Post-canon. Christine is gone, though goodness only knows where. Off to marry her boy, surely. Not that that matters much, now that Erik is so utterly and completely alone. He finds himself on a boat across the Channel, traveling to a country he's always hated. But what does it matter? Who needs to dream--what is the point?--when it always ends in disappointment and heartache?

2. The Impossible Dream

Pre-canon. Erik has long been settled in his cozy life beneath the opera. He finds quite a bit of enjoyment in causing chaos as the infamous Opera Ghost, terrorizing the corps de ballet and making demands of the managers. His life seems complete, with the exception of the one thing he could never plausibly have: someone by his side. One day, however, these desires resurface when he hears the voice of the beautiful new ballerina, the one called Christine Daaé. Is it too foolish to wish that she could be his?

3. Any Dream Will Do

Post-canon. A dashing husband, a beautiful little boy, and a château in the French countryside. Yet, all Christine can think about is what might have been. What might have been if she hadn't left with Raoul all those years ago. How things would have gone if she had chosen to marry Erik instead. She has her fairytale life as the Countess de Chagny with her handsome Raoul by her side, though she cannot help the ever-present cloud looming over her, the thought that the dream she presently lives has only sufficed because she couldn't have what she truly wanted.
