Guided heavily by her upbringing and surroundings in Cheyenne Wyoming, West’s paintings explore the human body in relation to the spaces that it occupies. West’s oil paintings deconstruct the male gaze, reimagining the female nude. With acute attention to detail, West creates tender portrayals of the female body, examining collective notions of beauty and representation. Contrasting her intimate painterly approach with a cool toned palette, West’s recent works create a dialogue between historical paradigms of femininity.”
